55g turn-around (1 Viewer)

i would transfer all your stuff from the 20 to the 55 then use the money for better equipment. i just recently upgraded my 55 ALOT and i could not be happier! things will turn around for you, just make sure you have a good plan. here is a before and after pic of mine.

Also I thought the rocks would increase chances of selling but I may be wrong.

You may need to start planning to do the best you can with what you have. The 20 you have has a cracked rim and a new 20 can be bought for $20. The tank is basically worthless. The light you have that is the majority of the value, while it may have cost you a lot, is essentially a DIY. DIY stuff doesn't usually resell very well.

Also, if you need more rock, who cares if it will increase your chance of selling. If you sell it, it will cost you more to buy more rock later than if you had just kept it in the first place. It doesn't make sense to sell something you need and/or plan to add to this tank.

Was a 20 gallon WC, did some major work on the glass and did my first attempt at using a tooth brush on the rocks. Also heavily siphoned the gravel (where I could get to it).

If I were you, personally I'd get a small yellow tang or a really cool wrasse that you could watch swim through your rockwork and around your islands.

Wow, what a difference! See what elbow grease can do. I hope this gets you excited about it. I agree with the above comments above. Put your time and money into the 55.

Yes, this tank needs a show fish. Forgot to add that IMO you would be doing yourself a huge favor getting a background for the tank.

since the tank has water in it already I'd reccomend one of those cheesy black ones. They dont look half bad and they are cheap and a good alternative to painting.

Or one of the Finding Nemo ones! Someone mentioned using fabric I think in a build thread a while back...I think it is the one where you offered a bunch of free stuff to him Jace

haha oh i've offered a bunch of people free stuff haha but ill try to find it

Petco has the black background. Couple bucks I think. I did it to my 55 as its not the best it looks better.

I dod a blue ocean scene I got from DFS. I like it. I applied it with SeaView gel though. Not sure how you would do that without easy access to the back of the tank.

I use to have a 2-spot hogfish in the tank :brick:
That guy was my favorite fish in the whole take..... I'm still debating if I should replace this tank with a drilled one as that's going to equate to a lot of money and time that I don't have.

I agree with a show fish and I'm sure that'd get my parent excited about this tank again also :)

During the cleaning it didn't feel like I had gotten so much crap out but obviously I did and I'm glad I did it. This definitely has me excited Adam G :agree:

I will eventually get a tape-on black backround and will also be researching for some good ways to improve this tank.

There's a lot more space back there than you think. . . lol
Lets put it this way, I can fit behind there (except it gets tighter on the viewer's right side by the skimmer).

Also I forgot to mention I did have a salinity scare for a while because I had added 1 cup too much of salt to my RO water (Obviously I shouldn't be in Pre-Calculus  ).
Luckily in 1 hour had 3 more gallons of fresh water to mix it with.....dodged a bullet there.

there was a reef ready all drilled bulkheads included 40 breeder for sale today for 40 bucks but its already pending to someone

I have a hob octopus skimmer rated to 75g. I used it on my 50 and worked great. I no longer have a need for it they sold for 200 if I'm not mistaken. Needs a few things repaired but it sits on the tank and still works the way it is ( had it like this for the last year ). The legs need to be re glued on.( do it sits away from tank ) I'd sell for $40. Should put skim that one you got now. Also a drilled tank won't make your tank better as it does nothing other than allow for a better skimmer and hiding accessories. A good skimmer used will be 100-200 and then need a return pump etc. a good maintenance routine. Good hob skimmer. Good lighting will go a long way.

Also look I. eBay. There are good refractoneters for $35 shipped. That would be my first purchase ( and test kits )
