55g turn-around (1 Viewer)

I must have missed that, thanks for pointing that out. That is unfortunate. I agree about sticking with what you have. I'm no stranger to getting ahead of one's self, and that's good advice. Then again, you've usually got very good advice. :)

Ya, parents got rid of that idea on the trip to OD...
My parents also said they really can't afford a sump right now so I'll make the most with what I have, maybe invest in smiley's HOB skimmer.

Would a 20g WC be too much weekly?

Don't forget the salt cost though. You have to find a balance.

There is nothing magic about 20%. Even then, it is very unlikely that your tank holds 55g. It probably never held exactly 55g and then with the rock and sand displacement, who knows what your exact water volume is.

Pick a size that is big enough to have an effect and convenient with your supplies.

For example, I have 2 big tubs that I use. These tubs have a lip in them. So, when I do a water change, I mix new water in one bin to the lip. Then, I take out water from the tank to the second bin to its lip and then pump the water from the first bin in.

To be honest, I don't know the amount of water that bin holds. Its somewhere around 20-25 gallons. But, I don't need to. 20-25g is somewhere around 20-30% of my water volume.

Or you could do 12 gallons for a slightly larger percentage.

As for livestock, unless it's just a forethought, I would concentrate on getting the tank up to speed before stocking it any more.

I'll take Hypertechs advice and see if 9g is good for now.
Also yes, nothing new is going in this tank as I will be gutting it to switch substrates anyways (causing unnecessary stress).

On my bowfront no mounting legs fit for a 6 bulb t5ho fixture so I put two blocks of wood under the light fixture long enough so they could rest on the frame without a top.

A skimmer - even a crappy one - should take care of O2 exchange. The glass tops really aren't an issue unless the temps are getting too high. While legs for the light and a screen top might be nicer, he's got enough projects going on I wouldn't call that any kind of priority.

Ok need to make some plans on what route to go. Got a 4-day weekend coming up and I think nothing would make better sense then kicking the re-modeling into gear (please don't suggest getting it drilled as we do not have the money to afford all that).

So what would you guys suggest?
Replace Substrate?
More Rock?
_________?
