55g turn-around (1 Viewer)

there was a reef ready all drilled bulkheads included 40 breeder for sale today for 40 bucks but its already pending to someone

Guessing that's the one from the guy up in St. Cloud? I couldn't go that far anyways :/

That main thing is the huge hassle it would be. If I bought a Drilled I wouldn't be able to fill it because it'd just drain out the holes....
Maybe something will come along...

I have a hob octopus skimmer rated to 75g. I used it on my 50 and worked great. I no longer have a need for it they sold for 200 if I'm not mistaken. Needs a few things repaired but it sits on the tank and still works the way it is ( had it like this for the last year ). The legs need to be re glued on.( do it sits away from tank ) I'd sell for $40. Should put skim that one you got now. Also a drilled tank won't make your tank better as it does nothing other than allow for a better skimmer and hiding accessories. A good skimmer used will be 100-200 and then need a return pump etc. a good maintenance routine. Good hob skimmer. Good lighting will go a long way.

Also look I. eBay. There are good refractoneters for $35 shipped. That would be my first purchase ( and test kits )

I'm interested in your HOB skimmer, I have $30 in my pocket right now and ask my parent for $10 more and I'd be set.

So is a Skimmer all I need for filtration? (Including WCs of course)

Hypertech can I see a pic of the backround on your tank? I've tried plain blue before and it was kind of ugly. Might be interested with the Open Ocean one they have though.

Sorry, but back to the original argument that as long as you are in tank upgrade mode, and with friends here who are willing to help plumb a tank, getting a drilled tank really isn't as big of a hassle as you think. You are already going through the hassle of a total overhaul so...

Either way though, after this project you will come out with a much better tank

Sadly, I don't think we're going drilled this time around :brick1:

But with that being said, this has allowed me to get my parents into the idea of an HOB fuge, better skimmer, new substrate (no BB, my definitely didn't want that lol) and more rocks.

I think that is the largest of the hang on ones, of course you could look into custom made, but that takes more time and money.

u should really drill this tank if you want to "overhaul" it. hob skimmers are $200+ for a nice one worth running and a hob fuge will do little to nothing for nutrient export. i have glass holesaw, bulkheads, loc line and silicone that you will need to set it up. $15 in glass and $15 in pvc and your set. i also have a skimmer too. 20l are only $20 at petco theres your sump.

+1. Sounds to me like you're making more work for yourself than it's worth. :2cents:

I'm pretty sure he said his parents vetoed drilling the tank when it was explained on a trip to OD. So all these "drill it" posts really aren't helpful. Plus, some 55s are tempered so he may not even be able to. Not to mention he seems to be on a tight budget and doing that would require acquisition of at least a sump and a return pump along with plumbing.

A 55 isn't ideal but it can work. IMHO, stick with what you have until you have more time to learn about reef keeping. You've started and stopped so many different things, just stick with one for a while.
