new Tank (1 Viewer)

Sorry to hear that.

I always wonder how fish determine where the only small opening of the top cover is. Nature I tell you.
LOL. Thanks Pete.

So the clown is the only fish you have in there? Btw tank looks amazing
Thanks. No I have a few fish. 2 clowns. 1 ora, 1 true perc, Midas blenny, and a Melanurus wrasse.

i got some acrylic if you need some
Thanks, I will let you know. I think im gonna try gluing some black thin cutting board to my screen top. Funny thing is the other fish are to fat to even come close to fitting through the hole.

Some new additions compliments of Cubetankguy.

Some fun look down pics after water change this morning.

Think I counted 50 different species in there. Wife says I need coral anonymous. Think she might be right. LOL

excited for the swap. I have a few nice pieces picked out. And hope to find some nice ones there that I cant live without. All last weeks additions seem to be doing well. No real growth yet, still early. Im thinking another fish may need to be added, But not sure what yet. My wife say I need a focal point, There is nothing that grabs your eye. I was thinking the chalice that is bigger then my hand was good. But its on the bottom and kind of hard to see. The New pump is working great. The fish are out more. And looks like my female clown is hosting some fuzzy mushrooms. Shes keeps biting the crap out of it. Well thats all for now, I will post some new pics after the swap. See if I can get the misses to use her Nikon.

Not sure what a high tds is, but this morning i decided to move my tds meter from the di resin input to the main line coming into the ro unit. 149 going in, I was surprised. I left it there for now. But will move it back to the input of the di. At that point it was 2-3 and 0 coming out the di. What do most do with there tds meters? Forgot to say this is a dual tds meter.

was able to go visit a great friend today and pick up some nice additions.

Setosa

Urchin

Cucumber

And some FTS

Also picked up some peppermint shrimps, but there in hiding.

Tank is coming along nicely. No changes. Doing weekly top off, and biweekly water changes. Was looking at an mp10 today. May after summer pull the trigger, Just for fun. New hydor is doing just fine. No plans for now. Just looking for unique pieces, and critters.

Big thanks to Saltwater Empire!!!

new additions seem to be doing well. I have not seem the peppermint shrimp since added. Hope there still in there. LOL. The yellow cucumber has not put his feelers out very much, hope that changes. I did feed today and they were half out, just not fully extended. Just have to wait and see. I forgot to post some pics of the new pieces from the swap. Try to get those up soon. I really need to learn how to use the slr.

swap coral pics
smaller zoas on left. Have not opened up much yet, but coming along

yellow whip

cant get good pic of the erics pumpkin pie. try another day.

yesterday I noticed some of my sps are starting to have some die off near the base where the spread. So I ran up to lfs and picked up a few test kits, calcium and alk. calcium was at 420, alk was at 5.5. So now im looking into 2 part. This morning I did a water change, Then checked again. Alk 6, calcium 420. I will spend the next week doing water changes to try and get my alk up. Then at the end of the week see what they are at, If close I will see if I can keep up with weekly water changes instead of bi. If over the next few weeks if this cant be done. I will order the 2 part kits from brs, along with a mag test kit. and a ph probe. Just documenting the process here.

All else is looking good. Urchin at almost eliminated all red turf algae. My green slimmer has spread like crazy. No vertical growth. My zoas are still slowly disappearing. Not sure on this but it is what it is.

Still looking for a pink cats paw. But with the alk the way it is, Thats been put off for now.

FTS update. Moved some things around.

Looking good, I do like the look of the 33 long. Your zoas will appreciate some more alk. I used to loose zoas back in the day when I didn't dose and as soon as I started adding alk they all opened up and quit melting away.

blow the detritus off the rocks and they will come out

I love the tank. Nice job!
thanks

I need some help. Im confused on what to do about my alk problem. Ive looked into kalk. Ive done this in other tanks, And 2 part, New to this. My question is. can I dose only alk using kalc. Or will this raise the calcium also. Which is at 420 now. Also can I just do larger water changes to fix this. Now I feel I have a sps dominate tank, And the corals I see that have the issues are the larger colonies, Only, And these are also the slower growers, some of the frags are growing like weeds and have some smaller colonies that are also growing like weeds. I was doing 5 gallon bi weekly changes and now going to change to 15 gallons weekly to raise the levels. But im not sure if I should just add the alkalinty now and then keep my husbandry the way it was and just need to dose when needed. Like I said i have now just confused myself, LOL
