It will be a while, but I do plan on getting in touch with those who I sold particular corals too. Especially you Chris, you were the only one to get the Vivid's Rainbow! How are all of them coloring up for you? I loved that Rommels watermelon, it was just starting to color up nicely when I had to tear down.
 
Just be done with it and webcast your tank.
Have the HD camera set up to stream live through the ReefLink when the lights kick on and off.
What's so hard with that? :biglaugh2:

might as well also offer multiple POV streams including in-tank cameras, a wireless battery-operated for an urchin to carry, and a surgically implanted camera between the eyes of you favorite fish!
 
I keep thinking to myself "I should clear off some of my sand bed." Then I see your tank and cry a little... You do a lot of things right, but a crystal sand bed has to be the most unmatched in this club!

The ProCorals Rainbow has added 6-7 new branches and is getting that nice purple/orange/red colony color. Rommel's was just a little guy and is still encrusting. Vivid's has encrusted a lot out onto the rock but hasn't branched much yet; the most impressive colonies I've seen have been under halides, but I'm hopeful.

I really appreciate that compliment, thanks! It's hard not to take advantage of the sand bed real estate, especially as the rocks "reach capacity". Retaining negative space created by the open sand and between the rock work was a main goal when I planned the build. But eventually, my artistic side might be overcome by the insatiable coral junkie within. When it comes down to it, that sweet orange plate sounds a lot more fun than "negative space".

Yep, when I do my water change I will usually run my hand over the surface of bed to break things up and then siphon the surface. I do pull out some sand with it, but I have a few bags of Fiji Pink (dry version) and I just pour a cup in every now and then to replace. I do think there's some credibility to the claim that deep sand beds can be nutrient sinks, so I don't mind replacing some of the surface sand over time.

It just takes ever having a bare bottom tank setup at least once to realize this. When you have a good visual of all the crap that accumulates on a bare bottom tank even in just 1 weeks time. I went barebottom for several years and while I do prefer some kind of substrate it definately taught me that I can never do a deep sand bed ever after knowing what accumulates in even such short periods of time, let alone what could be accumulating over the course of years.

The other thing I learned the hard way that never again will I have a deep sand bed was taking down a tank that had a deep sand bed. While lugging 800lbs bags worth of sand when setting up the tank wasn't exactly fun, Lifting out smelly 5 gallon buckets of water logged sand at a time back up the basement stairs when I tore it down. I don't think I've ever cursed and sweared as much in my head as I did each and every trip up and down those basement stairs. :brick:

Business as usual in the ELOS. The most exciting thing to happen this month was when I filled the calcium reservoir with magnesium. I didn't notice until I tested low calcium a few weeks later and started checking to make sure the dosing system was working properly. Didn't really have a noticeable effect. Here are some pics of new growth, etc:

RR Sleepy Hollow - Such a mean looking acro


RR Fusion - Growing like crazy and finally showing colony colors. Similar growth to the "dragons".


BC Hyperberry and Space Ghost - Placed way too close together..


BC Pink Flamingo - Yellow bits on the corallites are starting to form.


RMF Diablo Mille - Pinkest thing I have by far.

Fence project got rained out today so I put in some colored PVC from Bulk Reef Supply. I think it looks cool but it could just be the PVC cement vapors.

 
Sure... Raising the bar again for the rest of us!
It does look very sharp, though, with the pipe color matching the valve handle.
