Do you think a tank with a lot of negative space or low overall aquascape height would be the ideal?

I think this would be pretty close to ideal. You dont really want any rock or coral in the direct path of the original flow (top). The gyre return is the high quality flow that would be in the lower half of the tank

I really like the look and feel of this piece of equipment. But... I'd like to see that ballon-circular-flow display done again but with a pile of rockwork in there . And I don't mean them showing us a healthy tank with just this pump in it, but really get to see where those balloons would end up, where they seem to never hit or get stuck and so on.

I spent another couple hours playing around and noticed a few things.

I was giving a monti a little too much flow and a little big of edge burn off.

The high you put the gyre the lower power needed to get the circular flow. I moved it to 1 in below the water level and I get a strong gyre with only 20% power... really interesting.

I run in pulse mode normally but every few days I am running in reverse to clean out some crude.

I crank it up to 100% for some really intense nutrient export and it works nicely!

I like this thing! Seems much more quieter now that it is broken in. I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of the controller, as I need to look at the manual pretty often as I don't remember what stands for what.

I've moved it all over the tank, and get pretty awesome flow all over. Will leave it on the side (6' tank), eventually, with a Vortex MP 40 on the other side. The nice thing is my rock work is in such a way that the side of the gyre has lower rock work, and the other end of the tank has higher rock work. May need to post a pic to explain that.

On a 120 with 2 overflows in pulse mode it puts too much water in 2nd overflow and makes it hard to adjust the herbie without a getting a gurgle.
As to noise it reminds me of a cell phone set to vibrate going off in the stand. I'm used to a constant hum and not the on off. It really isn't that loud just thought it would be silent.
You can't really expect much from the reverse mode because the fins would not move water in that direction effectively.
I'm going to switch out an impeller to reverse on the side closest the overflows and continue to run pulse to see what happens.
The unit is pretty cool and seems well made. I'm not up on any of the new technology pumps, WP, MP so this review is coming from a guy who has been using penductors for 9 years and didn't realize how good of flow I had until I just removed them. The gyre is a cleaner look in my tank.

Has anybody tried this on the back of their tank instead of the side? I'm wondering how the flow would look if I put this on the back of my 5' tank. Has anybody had any luck with a vertical position?

I think ChistopherKriens did just that. Check out his build thread.

Anyone have an update on their units? I need to upgrade my Jabeos... Options are a mp40 or a gyre, now the same price so which direction to go? Thoughts?

Mine is quiet, but if I place it in the pulse modes, I can hear it as it pulsates. Pretty annoying when my tank is down stairs, and I can hear it in my bedroom above.

Otherwise, it does create a lot of current.

Anyone using theirs on an external wavemaker or controller? How has it been?

They are coming out with a new bracket for the XF150 model also that will be available soon. The XF130 already has a rubber mounted bracket also.

So are they going to offer it for free to people who feel it is too noisy?

For that I do not know, most likely I would doubt it but maybe... lol

I know not a good answer but they have not even announced an official ETA on the mounts let alone what they will do with current customers.

BRS posted an informational video on the Gyre last week. In the youtube comments I asked about the advanced controller. They didn't have any official word from the manufacturer, but expected it within the next couple of months. Figured I would throw that out there for others waiting to try one out until they can be controlled via their apex like I am.

I wonder how this would work on my 92 gallon corner tank. The right angle is 35x35 with 1/4 circle front.

So will a Gyre work well on a 72x24x24 180 gallon tank then, because I see everyone using these on 4ft and 5 ft tanks?
