MOAR FISHIES!!!

Ha ha - I like your style sir! (in this instance!!!)

Where did the nem run to once in the display?

Seriously - I would be down to come help do an Aiptasia blasting party. We could nuke as many of the big ones we can find then maybe any Aiptasia eating fish could try keeping up on the smaller ones that crop up after?

I'm thinking about more, ~ 20-25 chromis school. Problem is I think it's always 'until there was one' with those, they kill each other off. I started with 5x of the Vanderbilts in QT. Figure in instead of 5 start with 25... odds game like dating.

I think about pulling all the rock/redoing the rock work/adding sand at times. Tough part is I clean the tank, outside of the glass, about once ever 6 months. Pretty low maintenance.

Worth repeating.

jlanger is so helpful - isnt he? Go away camera sniper............

Nem looks VERY happy - bubbling and all!!!!

I get low maintenance - I have it - but the few things about the tank that bug me - bug me everytime I look at the tank or do any maintenance - therefore - I get all OCD and have to fix em.
If you ever want to pull the trigger on the rock, and and/or blasting the nems (I can fit in that beast of a tank to blast what rocks we cant pull dude) - I am down to help. (Notice I didn't say a thing about the sand...... ; )

Far as the Chromis - I am of the same mindset

I added a school of 12 Blue Chromis to my tank on 01/23 - lost one after about a month (never found him) then 06/13 noticed one beat to heck and he disappeared the next day.

Just this week I noticed another one disappeared - I am down to 9 since January.

Thinking I'll save the 'mess-o-chromis' card until I try and add something super special in the future- Bandit or Cospic etc. Thinking is that would be a good distraction for me to sneak something special in. I'm likely done adding for ~ 6 months (or next week, who knows).

The overflow box is mostly not able to be cleaned and it's backed with aiptasia, so cleaning the tank aiptashia out will be only half of it. The Filefish might end up in the overflow box some day soon. They don't swim fast, easy to catch.

Thats quite the massive fish addition. I'm thinking about doubling my fish load from 2 to 5! OMG I know :p

And yes... Embrace the sexy sandiness. Some of those fish would probably love a better place to sleep.

Updates:

- ATS doing pretty well. Cleaning ever 2 weeks, getting some real turf growth. Pics below.
- Aptiasia 90% 'gone', don't know who but someone is chowing it like mad. Likely stupid is as stupid sees, once one starts nailing it the rest follow.
- Fish doing well, video below.
- Nice having no tanks (but empty QT) in the fish room, I never go in there and the room stays super clean now for some off reason. Wait for the Apex to TXT me the socks are dirty and it's on cruise control.
- Electrical usage is sky high, think a lot if the wife and AC but wholly crap is my electric bill high these past 3-4 months.

Next:
- Get one or two of these Gyre 170 if they ever come out
- Find ways of reducing electrical usage. Guess a Reeflo Hammerhead would cut ~ 150 watts out of the system but for ~$450 the RIO on that seems like a while
- What ever fish Riley gets, get a bigger one

How much algae is that scraped off into a measuring cup?

Live webcam with subscription fees, that is how you fund the electrical bill, man. 18 seconds=not enough.

2/3rd of one of the specimen containers used at SWE for catching fish, somewhere between 2-3 cups I'd guess

I agree with James, not enough video.
And that Mimic Tang looks great in there!

What are you going to do with all of that empty floor space in the fish room for now?

My wife was just commenting how much she liked the Mimic tang, I tried to correct her thinking but I didn't win that one either.

With the empty floor space I do snow angels in the salt crust. :) I mopped it and now I just marvel at how clean it stays. For some reason when I'm not in there daily spilling water all over the place thing stay so clean. I can walk int here bare foot now! I put a shelve in there for all the stuff, looks better. Next plan is to throw stuff away, fish hoarder I am.

Thought about moving the mixing station into the room but that's a lot of work for something that's fine the way it it. Electric bill was $464.02 last month so setting up another tank seems unlikely until I figure that out.

Does that mean you got the skimmer waste bucket overflowing into the plastic tote overflowing on the floor thing figured out? - Or is that old news and I'm behind the times?

That shouldn't be too hard, my fish are so tiny. I forgot how small "medium" butterflyfish can be. Your anthias are probably bigger. Oh well, they do grow.

Skimmer not really, I thought I had it pretty good with no overflows in a month or so but it just ran a muck (literally) two days ago. I'm pretty close to hard plumbing it into the floor drain. I think I've worked out my two concerns - draining the sump and clogging the drain line over time. The run always pretty much solve themselves, the skimmer stops at a certain lowered sump level anyways (but plenty of water for main pumps). The bucket model don't some this either, float switches also mitigate this also. Regarding plugging, I'd just run my 5g/day AWC down this pipe also to keep it cleaned out. This is what all I'm telling myself, other worry it is will stink more.

I never get overflows past the tub so no messy floors anymore.

You sure butterflies grow? My semi is a supper slow grower.

Random stuck in the office working late before I go pickup my daughter update:

- Blotched Anthias went MIA, not sure what happened there. Somewhat bummed, this always seems to happen with pairs for me - one dies.
- 3 days ago I was marveling at myself about how I successful mixed the Potters angels with Flame angels, 2 days ago oen of the Potters had the snot beat out of him. See bullet above.
- NO3 control is still a complete failure with carbon anything. Bio pellets (BRS normal kind) ain't doing anything either. Vinegar dosing, AIO bio pellets and normal bio pellets not doing anything measurable
- ATS is fine, on 2 week harvest rotation (both sides every 2 week). I still might tweak the slot on that, surprised it hasn't dropped the NO3 either. See bullet above.
- Fish otherwise are doing really well
- Some hair algae coming back in
- Aptiasia is basically 99% gone (gone defined as I can't see it anymore, will come right back then the butterflies are removed). Yea!!!

Most happiest update is I gave up on the bucket within a bucket setup. Skimmer keeps going nuts and in the end there was no reason not to do this. I have a hunch this will be one of things I love the best, my skimmer is basically completely maintenance free now between the neck cleaner I borrowed (thanks Jonty!) and draining it. I touch the skimmer once ever 3-4 months now.

Sorry to hear about the anthias. Hopefully it is just hanging out in the rock work somewhere, those are very cool looking fish and are on my list of fish to have once I am more confident with keeping a disease free tank and being at home more if things do go wrong.

How close is your furnace to your sump? Are you able to redirect a condensate drain to help flush more than just Skimmate down that floor drain?

I would recomend Watchjng for that so that it doesn't start backing up if skimate starts to solidify in the trap or starting to smell. My concern is that with a slow drip of Skimmate it will settle to the bottom of the trap as the water flows over until finally the water is not allowed to get through.

Another good way to help this as well now that I'm thinking in depth would be to do water changes through the same drain possibly, it would blast anything sitting at the bottom of the trap through before it has time to fill up

I might just be overthinking this as well.

That small white line looped into the drain pipe is the auto water change output, dumps 5 gallons per day. I figure that should held keep things flowing, plus the skimmer dumps out a gallon a day on its own. I thought about pouring hot water down the drain every now and again, still might.

If it helps I had all the thoughts you did!

What is your ATO situation again? If the skimmer turns into a geyser, what happens? In a lot of setups, it will either drain the sump or if the ATO is hooked up to an endless supply, turn it into a FW tank. You probably have a salinity monitor on your apex or something...
