LowersMyBP's Latest Tank (1 Viewer)

Swapped rocks. Put all the big fish in the 300. Got rid of the sailfin, mostly because I prefer the plain black and white ones, may get one in the future. I was also able to remove the last anthias, hooray.

Added a midas to the 180 and there is a copperband in acclimation. Idea was to dump five more copperbands in there with my current two and see what happens. Also, hope to add a long nose butterfly. Only tang in the 180 is the kole. This may not work out, I am prepared to back off the plan quickly if it goes south. Waiting on the store to source the butterflies, will release them all at the same time.

Still lots to glue down, I keep finding loose bits. The activity in the 300 is fun.

Thank you to Carl, Dan, and fritz for the assists.

Liveaquaria black Friday special. Copperbands for $25.99. Crazy. I ordered 7. One DOA, the other 6 in a "QT" tank to raise the salinity from 1.018 to 1.025 by Friday night. Then I will FW dip em and put them in at lights out. Get up early Saturday and see how much refereeing I need to do.

No idea if it will work, no idea how many might make it to Friday. The liveaquaria 14 day alive guarantee made it a no brainier to try. I am planning on them all making it, but it is a fickle breed of fish for sure. At least two of them ate worms tonight, so that is promising. The sooner I get them in an environment where they can hunt, the better, I figure.

Copperband school? We'll see.

That'd be awesome! !

Well, could have gone worse, could have gone better.

FYI, all fish, even the peaceful ones, are killers. If given the chance/ability, they will kill.

The existing big ones were not fans of the little ones. After a day, one little one was pretty much toast and the other 5 were cowering above the powerheads. The big ones were too big to put in my single large howdy box (why would I ever need two, right?). So I put them into the 300. After a day of getting pinned in the corner by the convict tang, the Moorish idol and the blue face angel, I pulled them from there and got them to a friend. I also removed the convict, tired of acanthurus...when will I ever learn, just avoid those jerks unless you are going to have a full on aggressive tank.

So, five little copperbands remain in the tank. They took a day of beating, so that didn't help. One or two, not overly optimistic about, one or two I am optimistic about and one or two that seem sort of in between. Can't always tell which is which and sometimes the one you think is for sure going to die starts to chase another one, so you just don't know. For now, five in the tank and mostly doing their own thing. Due to their small size, it isn't as interesting to see as you might think.

Hoping the big pair survive the upheaval. Otherwise, jury still out.

Ahh that's no good. Best of luck to you.

At least you're still doing better than Sea Life!

Didn't work out. Rehomed 2 of the 5, the other 3 wasted away. I have my big pair back and that is that.

One of my two I have had 4 years now, the other one 3.5 years. They are so large, they look unnatural. Grigor says still not the biggest he's ever seen, so I guess that will be the goal now.

I added back some acros, I am up to 11 distinct species. Mostly just the classics. I still haven't gotten the motivation to test my water parameters, but things look good. I haven't run any tests since January. Just small frags now, so we'll see how things look in 6 months.

I'm running fully on guesswork, but between the skimmer, the pellets, the scrubber and the leathers achieving a large mass, I am hopeful all of that is keeping my N and P in check. As for dosing, I'm still running the same dosing program I was on 1.5 years ago....should look at that.

In all fairness, I'm actually a bit jealous of those that don't feel the need to know every little detail about what is going on with their system.

Bummer with the copperbands; would've made a stunning focal point in your tank.

Yeah, I don't recommend it unless you do pretty consistent water changes. I don't mind changing water, because I see that as having immediate, definitive benefits. Tests I just see as busy work. Remember, I am changing my T5 light bulbs when they burn out now too...no need to keep 'installed on' date records!

Funny jlanger and I were just talking about this yesterday. He mentioned a LFS testing bulbs and getting 18 months out of them before color shift. This can really save you $ on bulbs. I'm assuming you aren't seeing severe adverse effects from letting them run longer?

Any clue how long they are lasting before burning out?

I moved everything into these two tanks in December 2014. Most of the bulbs were running before that, I swapped a few out. I only remember pulling out a few bulbs in between then and now. I'd have to guess that 50% or better are going on well over 2 years.

If something has suffered, I probably haven't noticed. I have one blue plus I want to swap for an aquablue special on the 180 as I added those acros and I want a little lower K value, but I otherwise have no plans to change bulbs.

This is extreme auto pilot with an OCD water change schedule. It is a weird combination of lazy/ambitious reefer.

Life is much more manageable.

Man, they look big when empty. Should be able to get it moved out of the house on Saturday.

Current status of the 180, more tweaks coming as I need to unhook the stand for the 300 and rework/replace the sump/filtration as much of it was under the common part of the stand and much of it was under the 300 as well.
