Livestuff 180 Gal Build (1 Viewer)

Last update was 2014. Quite a catch-up post!

Glad to hear that you’re OK. What a scary incident!

Is the new fish room still in the crawl space? It looks like maybe it is. I enjoyed seeing the old one in person and agree that you should host once the new one is “live”.

Thanks So much. Things were getting better but now I'm finding what triggers some pain in the brain  Only time will heel
Yep still in the crawl space just moving it to the other side of the center beam. Got a little more done today. Still waiting for Midwest to get started on the sump.

Time for update. Things r moving slow just cause lots going on. Still have lot to do but it's looking done-ish.
Still have to move the ATS over yet and finishing piping new sump. New sump is currently tied together to whole system but still have pipes to move. New dosing still needs to get started up.
The issue I was having with temp seems to have fixed itself. Had not had any issues as of lately.
All the lights r dimmible and individually switched so I use only what I need.
Sink was a freebie
Cabinets and table from Bauer brothers salvage. Table I had cut legs, sanded, stained and added locking wheels.
Sink back splash was extra pieces left over from a Planet Fitness I did the plumbing in. Been sitting in the garage for awhile.
So far I'm loving the space. It would suck if I were a couple inch taller. I'd be doing a little head banging and I already had enough of that
After this is done I need to get tank looking as good. Things there r plucking along but something still not right for keeping certain corals,But I'll figure it out and GET someone over here to help figure it out. Thanks for looking

Oh wow, awesome room. I can tell you've put a lot of time and thought into everything in there. Not only functional, but good looking too. Two things you don't always find together.

WOW!!! What a cool fish cave! So many cool upgrades.

  • Huge sump and wash sink
  • Mobile work bench with access to all side storage
  • Heating coil in the sump
  • Sump sock wash machine
  • Water testing station and drying racks
  • RODI on tap at the wash sink
  • Full APEX system with computer access right there
  • Lounge area with pretzels and snacks at the ready - Get a mini fridge down there ;)

IMPRESSIVE!!
You did an outstanding job building a most functional room in one of the least functional spaces.

Wow, this is great! You can tell you put a lot of time and effort into planning and laying it all out to be most efficient and effective. Really nice job!

You have made yourself a truly spectacular Fish Cave. To be honest, I am a little jealous. This build deserves a write up of some sort.

Thanks everyone for the great comments. Just that makes it worth the work and effort. I still have work to do and it will get done. Open for a visit almost anytime if anyone interested. Just give a PM. Or once tank is looking up to my par I'll gladly host a gathering.

So what's your favorite part or feature about the change?
I'm kind of making this a man cave of sorts too. I like the new controller but can see where it can make one lazy. So I plan to start testing manually and just see how steady thing are. I really want to up the corals in the tank.
I like the room and it's kind of comfy down here on these hot days. I'm just looking forward to when I don't need to duck under the beam to the other space. hoping this weekend I will get more done.

It's ordered dude.. ;) Hey what happened to the beer glass emoji?:( oh well

IMPRESSIVE!!

Thanks Jason Thinking why waste the space for the kids;) but guess I'm a kid at heart. It's like a cool fort.

Very nice! Love the use of space but at 6'3" i'd have to invest in some padded flooring or kneepads! Cheers!:Party

Thanks for the tour today. Your man cave & fish room is awesome! You've out a lot of thought and work into it.

You got me thinking about if I should try the water heater method for heating. It does save a lot of power. But I have a long run from my tank to water heater and would need to go through the ceiling.

Update time I guess;).
I'm really glad I did this fish room( crawl space). But the tank still looks the same, nothing new but still trying to find what's up with new corals not making it long term 😢
The coil in sump for heating tank with water heater is working really well. I may have to plug pump into a dedicated temp controller to save on the Apex EB8 outlet. The heater pump runs about 8 to 12 hrs a day but at only 2 watts an hr spread out evenly.( 1hr-1.5hr ON 1hr-1.5hr OFF) This is keeping the temp swings to around 0.3 deg. + or - 0.1
What do you guys think of that on/off with the EB8 at that rate? Harmful or not?
I turned the old area into salt mixing station so I still have to duck under the beam once in while (more then I'd like🤯).

Items left to complete
1-Programming alarms on Apex
2-Piping and programming of Apex for Auto water changing
3-Make a acrylic top for ATS , currently just cling wrap to keep evap. down
4-Set up smaller tank I have just so I can have something to watch down here.
I have a 30 or 35gal IM AIO that was a QT tank from someone. So I will need to clean and Decontaminate it.
5-Maybe someday add a mini fridge. That idea was set aside for now. I'm not that lazy yet. I can still
go get a drink from upstairs.
6- Of course THE TANK
7-Can't remember all the rest.

Will host something this spring
