Durand tank build (1 Viewer)

So that channel is typically for cooling and flushing the impeller and nicer pumps which this appears to be. Basically keeps them running well with lack of maintenance. That is pretty odd and I’m surprised it was in wrong and much as I am that it made a difference in flow. When you said the Tunze was way stronger than the Varios I was surprised as I thought they were monsters. Mysteries unraveled!

Wow, did you buy it new or used? I’m not familiar with the internals, I wonder if they use that port for cooling the motor? Regardless, that’s amazing that it changed the flow rate that much. I’m with you Shawn, I hope that was the problem all along. Was this the same return pump you had on the old tank? All those troubles as well could have been the same root cause? Crazy man. And frustrating!!
Yes brand new pump straight from BRS
Yes same pump that I used on the old 24” cube that also had to have the gate valve adjust almost daily.

I’ve managed to get it dialed in now fairly quickly. Unlike before. Currently set at 50%, was at 60% before and it was more like 30%. The ripples on top of the water from return nozzle is make quite a few bubble. Thinking I may need to try and find an a Y to add in the lockline so I can keep the flow a little higher but split it up. I don't want to push the return nozzle lower due to the amount of water that get pulled in when i turn the pump off.

I think it’s safe to call this overflow problem a thing of the past now. Tank has been running exactly where i set it without any changes to the overflow height. OR very minimal from power heads. I finally feel safe enough to start dialing it in to the height that silence‘s the water fall sounds im getting from the water entering the overflow. I may need to dial the return pump down a little if raising the water level a little doesn’t do it, but im excited that i now have that as an option LOL

Today while lookign things over I notices a few pods climbing ontop of the bubble trap foam that sits between the return chamber and the fuge chamber. I was thinking maybe these guys are not able to get through this foam and maybe not make there way to the display. Now im looking at ordering 6-8 wrasses over the next few months this got me thinking that maybe I should remove this piece of foam??? I left it in to prevent chaeto and detris from entering the return chamber but maybe im blocking pods as well??? Any thoughts on this? It very course foam and I would think they could climb through it but im not seeing very many pods in the chaeto when I stir it up or in the display at night when the lights are off so maybe my numbers are down?

Got the qt tank almost ready for incoming fish. Just waiting for acclimation box for the display to come in and then wait for the sponges to seed

Ordered a few more of these Wi-Fi plugs as well for qt. There are really easy to set up on schedules.

Playing with the flipper filter on the iPhone.

Pumped been running perfectly. So glad that is over. Now been able to change my focus over to my kalk stirrer. My ph averages 8.23. With 8.11 as my low and 8.34 as my high. Stirrer works great. But I want to see if I can dial it in a little better with taking some of my mid day doses away and move them over to my evening doses. Think swapping out the current Kamoer x1 pro to something that drips instead of dumps would allow easier dialing in. Since the dos would do what I want but is loud. I started looking at if I can get a line to the basement then a dedicated kalk bin say 25-35 brute can along with the dos would make plenty of klak that would last long time.
To be continued lol.

That chalice at the bottom is HUGE!

With my kalk stirrer I've been trying to accomplish the same. Currently have two dosing periods, one from 12am-12pm and one from 12pm to 12am. The night period doses 3x more kalk than my day period. It has helped bring my window from 7.9-8.4 to 8.15-8.35 but I'm still trying to get it closer.

I've also looked into changing the kalk stirrer motor to a 45rpm one so that it's even more "potent" by keeping the kalk suspended better, but that would likely mean more frequent adding of kalk and I don't like more work :)

I love that chalice! I cant get myself to frag it and keep thinking if Ill go bigger just to let it get bigger or move rocks around to give it more room. LOL

I thought about changing the motor also or adding the zip ties to the shaft to stir things up even more, but now that I do a better job keep the acrylic clean I can visually see the Kalk slurry getting disturbed when the doser adds water. This was not something I could see before when I had the kalk powder or slurry to high In the reactor. Keeping the max of 1 cup in the reactor every 2 weeks keeps it from what I can see working properly. So adding the faster motor seemed like a waste to me and like you said more work. LOL I think im going to take my 2-4 doses I have during max photo period and move it to my low point at night and see what that does. It will just increase the amount added at those times or maybe could even space the dose by 30 min instead of each hour. I went down the Chris Meckley kalk dosing you tube rabbit hole and thats what got me all stirred up for bettering my kalk 🤦🏽‍♂️.

Drank the kool-aid 🤣

Also looking to replace my rodi reservoir from under the stand. Been looking at a synergy reef container. Seems to be the only one that fits my footprint. This one I currently have works great but it’s giving off some smells I do not approve off. Guessing the water is pulling something out. It had the food grade emblem on the underside so not sure what thats all about.

It’s a really nice doser the only thing I was siappointed to find after the fact you can’t easily use it for like dosing Kalk over night. It will do 24hr automatic dosing but if you want scheduled dosing it will only allow 8 times.

Re: your ATO bin, look at advanced acrylics. They have a bunch of different sizes and not super expensive. I really like mine.

I was just talking to David about the 8 doses. Im hoping Kennan can jump in and explain how he breaks up his dose for kalk. Sort of a bummer if this is the case. But to your other point. Yea super nice. Took a ltitle to figure out the programming. I explain it like going from android to apple. LOL

I will look at Advance. Thanks

What I did to get around it was set the doser head to the lowest speed and then dived what I wanted to dose by 8 and then the doses were long and slow so it was close enough to continuous

Im wanting to just not dose from say 11-1, When my ph is typically at its highest because of photo period.

Program it for all day dose and then have apex kill the power to it from 11-1?

Yep that was a thought. But then no other dosing can be done if needed. (No3,P04,AFR)

I dose 96 times throughout the day, and have it split up into a night time (12am-11:59am) and daytime (12pm-11:59pm) schedule. Unfortunately to accomplish this you need to use virtual switch channels and virtual dosing pumps which require a Profilux.

You can however dose up to 150 times a day without a P4 (I believe). Just use automatic times instead of individual and start it at 12am and its will evenly disperse them. (Example showing my neophos dosing pump)

You just wouldn’t be able to split it into the day and night cycles unless you ran two separate dosing lines.

Got home early today and old reliable BRS dropped some gifts at my door. Two Voss dosing bottles ready to put in some work.

Trying to figure out a way to have a clean install with the dosing lines. Going to have to play around with it.
