BlindSwordsman's K.I.S.S. 90 Gallon Mixed Reef (1 Viewer)

I love how Ken doesn’t mess around. I need to channel my inner Ken and get some reef work done. Dang man!

My routine 'check in' meeting with my boss just turned into a 'quarterly review' this morning so I'm not in a very positive mood. I either over communicated or under communicated, so needless to say, I didn't see how I could win it either way 🥴... (Is New Wave still hiring a web person? Does that position require cleaning the tanks on the side?? hahaha...)

Whoa Ken that is DRASTIC!!

Yes, I know.

And I just don't have your patience, David. There are too many things that sadly don't go my ways, and if it's something I can control, I will just do it to get it over with.
My 2 pennies worth is my eyes are drawn to the left...
Looks good, just empty...lol

You are right about that. I usually don't like things too symmetrical :).

I'm just going to hold off on this for a while to see if there's anything ugly showing up before putting things in. I'm thinking about trying to add the chaeto back in again, so I'm thinking about posting on here to look for some.

So, it's been a week and there is some red stuff showing up on the new sand. Exciting stuff!!! 😆

And thanks to @asifiqbal2, I got a bunch of his fine chaeto and added into this system yesterday. He asked what I was aiming to achieve. Beat me!! I only thought it could be a good idea!!! 😁

I really do have the luck of a bedbug lately. Everything I touch seems likely to turn out broken. I took my DSLR camera out to take some photos and it broke too. I need a new one! 😬 .. I just posted some stuff on those Facebook places to see if I get some cash for it, instead of spending my own money or not 😅. First time I try selling something on Facebook, so I will see how that goes. I probably will post on here as well just for the sake of it 😁.

This is really not my good year. Things just seem to go south for no reason. I thought things were going fine at work, .. Well, until they are not! The working relationship seems just to go sour. We are in discord even though we agree on 1 thing! 😕 .. I took 1 Friday off to chill off, and I just got my car onto the freeway and it fell apart. I spent the next few days getting it fixed instead. ... This tank was going dandy the day before. The day after, it crashed. I lost a few colonies that I grew out from frags. Then while I tried to get this tank up and running again, I added something into it and the fish got ich! I lost pretty much all of the little fish including the 9 royal grammas. Just wonderful! 😏 ... But enough whining 😅, to make long story short, I fortunately got the 3 frag tank system running at the time, so I had a few extra things that I could use to patch up this tank. I also changed the aquascape a bit, and I think it's turned out less cluttered and might be an improvement there. At the moment, the dirty stuff on the sand has cleared off after a few days. Things seem to be fine. This is still another reset and it will take me a bit of time to grow things back again. Some of the things like the old gonies are still mad and I'm hoping they'll come around and fill out the rest of the empty spots. And here's how this tank looks at the moment.

Dang Ken your crashed tank looks better than most healthy tanks!
Thanks! It is because I removed the 'unhealthy'/dead stuff already 😆.

Ken,
We wouldn’t know for sure if it is a bacterial related issue. Do a huge water change, run some extra carbon via reactor. Then use a bottle bacteria and dose for a bit. Most of the bottle bacteria are not native but might aggressively compete for resources. Which will eventually die off when you stop dosing it but might give you an opportunity to reset the bacteria matrix. Just spitballing ideas here. At least you will see if your corals look better during that period

Thanks. But I think we have gone passed that fixing stage already 😆. Whatever I wanted to get done has been done. And I don't know much about dumping stuff into my tank anyway. It has gone through a teeny tiny cycle with some dirty stuff on the sand. Now, things are already put back and they are looking as happy as ever .. Well, maybe except the gonies as they are way too picky but they are also doing moderately okay 😁. But, thanks for the input.

I haven't updated this for a while, so here it is. Things are not doing 'awesome' to be exact, but they are doing 'okay'. (Every time someone says about their tank 'It's doing AWESOME!', I think 'Wow!' o_O) ... I've been keeping myself busy with work, school, stuff around the house (yard work, Christmas decorating, doing my own fund drive in selling corals to make money to donate to charity and stuff). I have also been brewing something else but maybe I shouldn't announce it :p. In any case, I just took a quick full tank shot. And I'll update the thread for my Dec meeting shortly while I'm at it.

Beautiful as always Ken. Despite the glass not being clean when I was over, it was still amazing to see your success!

Thanks! ... And sorry, David, I'm not going to change my colors for anyone. So, I didn't clean the tank even though I knew you were coming over 😆😆😆.

For sure, you actually explicitly stated before I came that you weren’t going to :)

Just an excuse to stay lazy, David. Have a safe trip! 😄

My first update in the new year: Nothing too dramatic here. I'm on my last day of my long vacation, and will be back to work tomorrow 😌. I took some time to rearrange a few things in the tank. I didn't like my middle island too much from the start of my tank redo, so I just redid that part. I got some rock from Amy's tank a few months ago. I soaked them in tap water, washed, rinsed and used them for filtration. I kept a piece that had an interesting V shape, and I just used that to create a magnet rock to replace the middle rock structure that I didn't like so much. Here is the new piece just got done. I kind of like it. Hoping it will look better in a few months. That is all. Happy New Year! 😁

Man I wish had your aquascape skillz!!! Nice job.
Thanks! Sometimes how the rock work looks really doesn't matter once you fill it completely with corals 😄.
