So they just sell/drop ship for ORA and WWC. Given the always awesome customer service I’ve always had from BRS I was good with it as nobody local has any clams right now.

Only thing I didn’t like is there was no email to ask what delivery day is good for me. Usually helpful when you’re shopping sensitive live goods in the winter.

This guy is still kicking so I went ahead and glued a frag plug on each side of the shell and connected them with rubber bands so he has a better chance at healing the hinge.

Rode the struggle bus today on my reefing journey!

Wife took both kids to a friends so I knew I had to spring into action on my deferred tasks.

Step 1: replace DOS heads for my AWC. Super cool guy on R2R sourced them from the mfgr Neptune buys them from, got 4x shipped for $90! Great ok got them in and noticed the line from my mixed water pump to the tank pretty gummed up with brown sludge from new water. Perfect, let’s flush that with hot water. Ope now it’s plugged, guess I’m replacing that line from my basement to the tank! Not a big deal got that done on to the next task.

Step 2: install the warrantied replacement pump for my Ultra Reef skimmer. It was putting out a blockage error so I’ve been using the stock AC pump meanwhile. Ok let’s give it a quick wash before to clean of the oils from manufacturing. Always good practice to ensure it doesn’t take a week to break in. Oh, neat it has a broken impeller shaft. Good thing it took 2 months of bugging Aquarium Specialty every 2 weeks to get this thing back to me. And replacement impellers are $80 so guess I’m harassing them some more for warranty coverage. Ok cleaned the stock AC pump up and got it back running.

Bonus round: shipped a light bar to a guy in SF on R2R. Paid in advance on UPS, $26 to ship. A week after the guy received it UPS emails me to notify of an additional charge of $96 because box measured 49” not the 48” I entered (and was on the original UPS tag from when I got it), and also claiming it weighed 40 lbs not 8. Awesome. I’m sure that will be fun to deal with.

Bonus round 2: Brand new Tunze 6075 powerhead I got has some issue and is making a loud oscillating vibration. Fortunately Tunze has the best customer service in the business and Roger is sending a new one in a week when he gets them.

It’s always stunning to me how 2-3 “simple quick reefing tasks” end up taking all afternoon. But, I find I strangely enjoy it. I put on a reefing related podcast or YouTube video and dive in (dad pun intended).
 
Forgot to mention I ordered one of these on Christmas sale.

GHL Mitras Lightbar 3 in Deep Ocean.

I do like the Quanta. It puts out great PAR but it’s all blue so it makes the front of the tank a different color and some corals actually getting burnt from too much light (a pink mille and a Tenuis strangely) at 500+ PAR. I could prob shorten the photoperiod but plenty of other stuff is happy.

Dang!!!! You weren’t lying about it kicking your butt!!

What a pain in the butt day. Sort of glad to hear it’s not just me chasing my reef tank tail around lol. But also don’t wish those days on anyone.

Tank is looking so beautiful.

I was just reading bout those lights last week. Cant wait to hear how you like them after a few months of use.

Only stinker about the GHL lights ( I see they have clarified their website now) is they did not mention it’s all ala carte so you don’t get a power supply. They do it that way so you can buy a single bigger one if you want multiple bars. Then if you want to control it you need a splitter and cable to program channels and schedule.
