I think it’s more of a rollercoaster where some do well for a while and then other do well, if that makes sense. So having acro’s on both sides in the same tank makes keeping nutrients a very small margin to balance and you do it well Sr.
totally!I think it’s more of a rollercoaster where some do well for a while and then other do well, if that makes sense.
That’s crazy. I’m trying to remember, is your fish load still pretty low for the bigger tank? I don’t recall, but do you think that’s part of the low nutrient issue?
Just curious what does sodium bicarbonate do that dosing phosphate and nitrate directly doesn’t. I’m obviously still learningIncreased feeding of frozen and pellets, started dosing ammonium bicarbonate 20ml/day and still 0.0 nitrate and 0.01 phosphate sheesh!

So in theory you would not have to raise phosphate and or nitrate by dosing ammoniaAmmonium bicarbonate (ammonia) is just essentially dosing what corals would get from more fish urea. They can more efficiently use it than nitrate but ultimately serves the same purpose.
No it is just a substitute for nitrate. Phosphate needs to be maintained separately. So in theory you would not have to raise phosphate and or nitrate by dosing ammonia
I was watching a podcast on YouTube and reps said the same thing … as long as you keep it wet it goes on forever but drying it out and storing takes a toll on it somehow? I think they were also talking about the MP wetside…. Which sucks because I always have the dry one waiting to swap the dirty one out but apparently that’s wear and tear on itNoticed huge dip in pH and found Ultra Reef (Sicce pump) DC motor block gave up the ghost this week. Was used for like 14 months and then cleaned and shelved for about 2 months during the tank transition. Motor block indicating dry run protection but there is no blockage. Fortunately I have the unused AC pump on the shelf ready to go.
Further supports my ongoing stance that DC pumps trade off the noise and reliability of AC pumps for quiet but more points of failure. Hat to say it but that puts Jebao ahead of Sicce in my narrow window of DC pump experience. If used as a return pump it’s critical to have a backup for scenarios such as this. Quality AC pumps are a little noisy but just keep going.
