Well, sorry to hear about your trouble, @Fishfoo.

I think it's just tough luck that @Fishfoo got something that likes to burrow through the silicone. I think it's not like we don't have things that can eat away our silicone in our tanks really. I'm sure my urchins munch away some of the silicone in my tanks too, but they usually take off parts of the outer edges or the top surface. They don't burrow a tunnel through the silicone. They just haven't completed eating through the whole thing yet 😅.

It's now probably down to 2 things: 1) A quick fix (i.e. just plug the hole and call it done) .. Or 2) a more complete, permanent fix (i.e. redo the silicone and maybe make sure it won't happen again? e.g. Does that thing have any friend in the tank?). There are so many 'what if' so the 1st one is 'Ehhh, .. don't know about that! 😬', but the 2nd solution is quite some work, I think. Sorry that I don't have positive things to say ... Mmm, maybe time for .. upgrade?!!! I know some people like that so this could be an opportunity for doing so and some people can see that as something positive :p.

Yeah, definitely not going to redo all of the silicone just to possibly have this happen again. And option 1 may not be an option due to the fact that I already put a huge glob of glue on the other side to make sure it can't get out (I hope).

After getting a few peoples opinions on it within the hobby, I'm just going to let it ride out as is with the glue. It was a legitimate pinhole leak that was dripping a small drop every 5 seconds, and doesn't seem to affect the overall integrity of the seam itself. No if I see evidence of this changing in the future, I'll need to act fast. But for now I'll keep it as is while I look for sales on new/used tanks that fit what I'm looking for. And to be honest, as much as I love sand in a tank I likely would go bare bottom in this new setup as I feel these worms love to hang out in the sand which then just brings them closer to the silicone lol. Without it, my theory is they are much more likely to stay in the rockwork.

Here's a little experiment I'm conducting. SC Dynamte x WWC Banana Boom. I wish I could've glued them closer to each other as I think it's pretty important for them to "heal" right next to each other but that's just a theory. Time will tell.

Your corals look great. Good luck with your chalice experiment. Have you had those close to each other before? Because I once put one pink sort close to a green sort and the green one got eaten by the pink one to the skeleton (melt it). Just asking!! 😁 Those are nice chalice to lose, but I guess you have a lot 😁.

Were they recently dragged pieces when you tried or had they each been growing for a while and then ran into each other?

My thought and hope is that if you get them touching immediately after being fragged, they will have a much better chance to “heal” as one. But again I don’t think I started them close enough for this to happen so I’m not super optimistic. Would need a gryphon cutting saw or something to make the cuts as straight as possible.

No, I did not intentionally put my chalice frags together so they would become 'grafted' like what you are doing. Those were chalice pieces that were 2-3", healed and had been grown for a long time before I bought them. They were perfectly healthy. I put them on the frag rack side by side, thinking 'chalice and chalice, so they should get along'. I guess it is the same thing like the lobo, I was wrong. The pink one (pink booby or whatever that is) touched and melt the other one to the skeleton 😁.
 
Ok that's good to know! Yeah I really wish I had them closer as I think it would increase the chance of success, but at the end of the day I have no clue what I'm doing :)

I guess I don't understand your logic 🙂. Are you saying that healed frags put together is different from freshly cut frags put together? The issue I had with mines was not having one attacking the other with its tentacles, but just by having its flesh touching the other. I had the same issue with the lobo where one lobo shooting out filaments from its flesh to consume the other lobo. In any case, good luck with your experiment. Maybe these 2 will get along, who knows? 😁

My thought is that if they are both fresh cut frags and placed right next to one another, there is chance of them healing and fusing together. Again, just a theory. If this one doesn't work I'm going to try once more with the pieces literally touching one another.

Another thing is that I think they have to be the same species (not sure if right word choice) of chalice. For example, there are mycedium, oxypora, echinomorpha and echinophylli and mixing the two would likely result in the death of one. I believe the banana boom and dynamite chalices are the same species, but again, not sure.
 
I like your theory. Kind of like how adversity/crisis bring people together and how you can introduce several fish together when they are stressed.

Once they are fat and happy then it’s game over they start killing each other 😂

Thanks! In my old tank I weirdly couldn't keep Mille's alive, but in this one they seem to be much happier. What changed? Your guess is as good as mine
