120g Acrylic Acropora Addiction (1 Viewer)

Whether there is a generator or not, it’s always the worst feeling. Blech.

Absolute [emoji91] - Great job Ben!
Thanks Chris!

Really not giving the tank as much love as it deserves, just chiseling coralline, throwing piles of digitata in the trash, and refilling dosing jugs.

Well the inevitable happened, found a chromis mortally wounded so now I’m down to 3. I think the loss of the huge orange passion colony they used for most of their refuge is likely the cause. Strangely I have a huge digitata colony they don’t hide in at all.

Aggression from other fish or its chromis friends do you reckon?

Likely they are not friends anymore šŸ˜†

Welcomed a couple new friends courtesy of Jeff at FisHotel, a local vendor who is considered the authority on full and proper QT procedures.

These guys got comfortable with their tanks mates within an hour, so hopefully they don’t turn out to be bullies!

Sad to report the injured clam is finally dying. Strangely not from the broken hinge though.

When I had folks over to take frags I was chopping a coral above the clam and I believe a small piece fell in his mouth. He hasn’t opened fully since that day and been slowly withdrawing his mantle. Time to toss him. Not bad, made it almost a year with a broken hinge.

Sorry to hear that Ben. Such a beautiful clam and you’ve had it forever it seems so you clearly were doing well by it. [emoji22]

I know very little about clams - but have you asked one of the clam experts if that’s common?

ā€œI’m not a smart manā€but I’d have thought it could be possible it was trying to expel whatever got inside perhaps… if that’s even a thing.

Yeah plenty of Derasas get broken hinges. As they get bigger they like a few inches deep of sand and rarely get that in most reefs. So when they slam shut I guess they break under their own weight or something.

But small pieces of acro falling in their mouths? Not sure šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø
