3 Foot Nano Tank (1 Viewer)

I'll look into the web cam again. I think for the HD version I wanted with white balance control it was around $100.

Since my wife was giving me a hard time with losing the firefish and wanting to get a new one I had to email her this this morning.

The psuedo is always wondering what I'm doing.

Another pictures of the purple guy with his clear fins.

My yellow/orange tip torch though hasn't been looking the greatest these last few days, and this was the very first coral I bought for the tank. So its been through many ups and downs. Now that the tank is doing really well this one is declining.... any ideas why??

It also hasn't grown, AT ALL in almost a year. The hammer on the left side of my tank has probably tripled in size in 6 months.

NEW PICTURES

Since it was requested on nano-reef.com I figured I post these here as well. Sump and plumbing pictures. And it just so happened to be a coincidence that the starfish was crawling over one of the bulkhead screens in the afternoon. It also shows that the tank doesn't overflow when its being partially covered up. It could handle almost my entire hand pressed against one so that little starfish does nothing.

On the left is my nimble nano, or whatever the creator called them. That magnetic cleaner I bought from a member on nano-reef back in 2004 and that was apparently the first black cleaner he ever made. It is one of my best tank items. It is so sleek that it fits between my tubing and the glass and is small enough that no one notices it when I park it beside the large bulkhead.

SUMP

The sump is pretty ugly I guess but I'm pretty proud of what it is able to do with so little. The top shelf holds my food, coral dip, super glue gel, tweezers, toothbrush, turkey baster, and towels.

The sump itself is a standard 10 gallon with a sock holder and sock filled with polyfill. A temp probe and heater. And a dual BRS reactor with biopellets and gfo/carbon. The return pump is an Eheim 1260. Other than that it just has enough room to hold my extra media.

Other than that my Gold Tip Torch seems to be doing much better. I didn't change anything around so I guess it was just having a bad week.

And my favorite fish needs some love since he hasn't had a picture posted in awhile

What kinda of flow can those drains handle? They are a really cool design

also, do you have a link to the weir or a product name?

I may have mentioned this before but Sweet Tank!

Thanks Doug

I don't know how much they could handle maxed out but it is probably a lot. If I used even larger piping and had a full siphon they could probably handle 1000gph+ I'd image. Right now its is more of a gravity design so they each only do around 250-300, since my pump is rated at 650 and I have it going at max power.

They are JT Bulkhead Screens. I ordered them from Amazon so I don't know if they will be back in stock, otherwise I did a google search of JT Screen and got quite a few vendors that had them.

Eric, have you tested your sump for a power failure? It looks like you will drain quite a bit of water out of the tank with that vertical bulkhead since the tank will drain until it is below that fitting and the sump looks like it is already pretty full.

It doesn't fill up as much as you would think. A total of about 3 gallons drains out. Here is an iphone pic after I killed the powerstrip for a few minutes.

The water in the display drops to the lower return bulkhead and a few tips of coral are exposed but thats it. I just hate turning it back on full blast as it sprays and sputters water pretty hard until the returns are fully under water again.

nice, that was one of the lessons I learned on my build when I had the bulkheads plumbed straight through the side like you do for the drains. But I had three 100 gallon tubs to deal with and the way they're tapered (narrow on the bottom wide at the top) that was a lot of water draining back. I just had to put some 90's on there and point them up But when I saw your sump it made me think about that. I guess I forget how small that little nano is.

I did the math lol 35" x 2" x 8.3" /231 = 2.5 gallons figuring you lose about 2" of water level

Great math and measuring skills :rotflmao:I pulled out a ruler and it was 2" on the nose from water line to the bottom of the return elbow.

I'd hate to figure out the volume of water on a nonstandard shape container and then figure out where to put it if it started to drain out.

PICTURES

The new Lace coral and a few top down shots to tickle your fancies. Also the Orange Leptastrea is seen in a few as well as I don't think I had a clear picture of that coral posted yet. Under blue leds that thing really pops out.

The Psuedo just could not help himself. He was always swimming right in front of the lens.

The open space in the center of this rock is being reserved for a gold torch. I was hoping to get it tomorrow but Dougers had an issue with his supplier so it might be vacant for a while yet.

The open space in the middle left of this rock will hopefully be filled with an oregon tort so I will have more variety of color over here as well.

Looking good.
What is the scuttle on that lace coral? Isn't that an NPS coral? You run a pretty lightly fed tank, correct? I don't know anything about them and what they need, I just know I've tried a carnation (different NPS) in the past and it withered away. Some advice: Don't try to feed enough to keep it alive if it requires heavy feeding. It will likely still die and the rest of your tank will suffer. Now, if it isn't like a Carnation NPS, then my advice may be offbase.

I'll try to feed it as often as I can. I've increased my feedings lately as the algae has been nonexistent and the tank is still looking good. As for the Lace, I'll try my best. It is an NPS, but it has the unique quality of having a completely blue skeleton, so even if it died it will look almost completely the same. It might even be dead already, its hard to tell.

Traded in my purple psuedo and bought another Helfrichi.... crossing my fingers on this one!

The psuedo was a royal pain in the *** to catch. I put a fish acclimation box in the tank and slowly dropped food in for the fish and made my way over to the box dropping the last pieces inside. The clown and midas swam inside to grab the food. Not the purple guy, he knew something was strange. After they were full of food it turned into trying to corner, net or trap the fish. He was so fast and darted into too many nooks or small holes in the rocks. So after about 30 minutes of that I had enough and just filled a bucket with water. I chased him around again until he darted into a rock and just yanked the whole thing out. I placed it in the bucket and wait a few minutes until he swam out. Placed the rock back in the tank and transferred most of the water back. The Midas took the ride out and back in, but once the psuedo was out you could instantly see he was more relaxed and swimming much more. It was like the regime or dicatorship had finally fallen and he was free to swim where ever he pleased.

After he was out I acclimated the Helfrichi and made sure he was doing well. The clown unfortunately gave him a few nips to his tail fin shortly after but by the end of the day he seemed to stop and they were just swimming next to one another.
