I seem to be having a problem getting Aquanotes to access my ACIII.
I have the ACIII hooked up to my wireless network and I can access the web based stuff on the ACIII so I know the wireless adaptor and ACIII are configured correctly. And when I gop through the aquanotes set up it cant connect to my ACIII. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I remember the serial # of the unit has to be entered into Database>Tank Database, and to find out the serial # you have to do a self test on the ACIII, the number is listed at the bottom line.

And on the Config tab you have to select TCP, put in the login and password for the unit (same as what you use to access the unit's webpage) and put in the IP address that your router has assigned it. (You can find this out by going into your router's configuration settings.) The "default port" for mine is left blank due to my router settings.

edit: although it sounds like you know the IP address otherwise you wouldn't be able to access the built-in webpage...

The default port on which? Aquanotes or the router?

I meant the blank on the Config tab in Aquanotes underneath where it says "Default Port=23". I just left it blank, but if you are using port blocking on your router, you may have to enter a valid port in this field. (I think most routers come out of the box without advanced port blocking enabled. But this starts to get into a fuzzy area for me.)

I turned on port forwarding on my router and it still didnt fix it. I know its one stupid setting but I cant figure out which one. I have gone through the set up in the aquanotes manual 5 times and still cant get it working right.

Routers can be goofy things. Sometimes if you cycle power to the unit the settings will "take", even if you are not supposed to have to do that. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Curt at Neptune is usually pretty responsive on RC, or if you give him a call in CA on Mon.

Ok just to clarify things:

From the AC Ethernet Port: Where are you connecting to?
From the AC Serial Port: Where are you connecting to?

Because you can connect to the ACIII's built-in webpage via a browser on another PC in your home network, this makes me believe that is has to be something with one of the settings in Aquanotes... IIRC the only places there are important settings for the net connection are in "Tank Database" and the "Config" tab in that same window. In "Database>Site database>connection" all my fields are blank, with the "Direct Connection" button automatically selected. "Direct to PC" is filled in above that. Under menu "Config>options" I don't think there are any important settings here unless it's a full version of Aquanotes. However the "passwords" tab on this may need to be properly set too.

Yeah its a full version of aquanotes. I'm pretty sure its a setting in Aquanotes too, Just cant figure out which on. I used to have aquanotes lite when I had my AC Jr. Running and when I upgraded to the full version it kept all my old settings. I uninstalled and re installed aquanotes and it saves and reloads all my old settings andf I cant get a clean install of notes on my computer......it is really starting to piss me off.

Sean, if you want, just call me and I will walk you through the settings on mine :)

I have gone through the maunal set up instructions 5 times and I can access the web based page in the ACIII I just cant get aquanotes to hook up to it. so I know the controller is set up right. the problem lies in aquanotes.

In many cases when you use the 'uninstall' option in the control panel -> ad/remove programs only the software itself gets deleted and some files and settings are kept in the folder where the software was installed. When you reload the software the program goes back in that folder and uses the 'old settings' again.
Uninstall the program...Then look up the aquanotes folder in your program folder and look if there are any files in that folder. If so delete them and the install AquaNotes again

Thanks Michael! I got a clean install finally.

well I got it figured out finally by getting rid of the wireless adaptor! now I have a 25 foot cat5 cable to deal with.

You are talking about a ethernet-wireless adapter you had on the ACIII?

Maybe that thing has a port forwarding setting that needs to be enabled.
