Adam G’s 8ft Rimless Reef (1 Viewer)

This remains to be seen. I will let you know Sunday night.

I am so tempted to by 6 of those new Kessils that just became available in November instead of re-using my 5 year old Hydra 52 non hd’s. Just can’t justify another $2600 in equipment. I mean, you have to stop somewhere right Marty?

Marty has graciously volunteered to help me plumb this beast Saturday night and Sunday. Really hope to have at least some water in it before I go to bed Sunday. We shall see.

It’s almost like you should have picked up that pair of ATI 4’ 8 bulb hybrid units some guy was selling on the forum. Maybe they would not have worked, let’s check... 4’+4’=8’. Yup, them maths checks out.

Don’t stop until the sump is 5’ into AJ’s bedroom, he’s a smart kid he’ll learn to live around it :)

I'd set my expectations a little lower...
I'm reminded of the last time Marty was involved in getting a build "wet"...

In my defense, it was for Angie’s tank.

Well the tank move went just as planned yesterday. We put the tank on a flatbed trailer in the heated shop. I cranked up the heat in the shop where the tank was sitting so the glass was nice and warm. The goal was to try not to get condensation on the tank as we were trying to bring it into the warm house. That worked very well.

Took just a few minutes to get the tank on the trailer and then I pulled it down to the back door of the house. Took a total of maybe 10 minutes to get it off the trailer in through the door and sitting in front of the stand. After we all caught our breath we picked it up and put it on the stand. Went easier than I ever imagined.

Paul aka VikingsCrazy and Tim aka Zoolan70 and 3 of my buddies came down. Tim also brought his son. Tim has had a lot of experience moving Tanks so he brought the suction cups and helped supervise and his son did the heavy lifting for him. Was really grateful to have both those guys they made the move very easy. Paul and I have now moved 2 tanks together and I can honestly say this move was much easier than last time we moved a tank. No stairs this time around.

All in all I think we were done in about 30 minutes and it could not have gone smoother. Unfortunately I was so worried about making sure everything went well that I didn’t even think to take any pictures.

I had everything pretty much dry fitted with pipes ran up and out of the stand. Still needed to do all of the bulkheads, the unions, and all of the lock line. Here is a pic of my pile of plumbing parts still to go in at the time of the tank arrival.

Below is a pic of all the dry fitted plumbing I spent countless hours getting ready while the tank was being made.

Marty and I started plumbing at about 6pm Saturday evening . At at about 1:30 am this morning the plumbing was done and Marty wiped down the inside of the tank in preparation for the aquascape and sand to go in.

At about 3am this morning the aquascape was in and we began filling the tank with 110 gallons of saltwater that I had on hand. After this was done we finally crashed at about 3:30am.

This is all the farther we were able to fill the tank with the water on hand. We decided we would call New Wave Aquaria in the morning and see if they had 200 gallons of water on hand and enough water jugs and buckets for us to haul it to my place with.

Much to our surprise New Wave not only had plenty of RO water but they also had 40 five gallon water jugs on hand for us to use to transport water. I thought that was pretty awesome. I didn’t expect them to have that many water jugs available. So off we went to Plymouth after a stop for breakfast.

We mixed up the RO in a 20 long with Live Aquaria salt and pumped it in the tank. By 3pm the tank was full and we started it up. Believe it or not we have no leaks. I actually found a small leak later this evening as I was working under the tank but easily got it sealed with a little PVC glue.

And here are a few pics of the tank as it sat at 6pm today exactly 24 hours after glueing the first joint. I never thought there was anyway we could have gotten this done in one day. I am running on about 4 1/2 hours sleep and physically drained and sore from hauling in 40 5 gallon water jugs not to mention getting the tank in the house. All in all very relieved to have this done in the tank up and running leak free.

And finally a pic of the finished plumbing complete with the skimmer pulling out milky water and beginning the process of clearing up the tank. Cord management is the next project. I think I need a day off before I start tackling that.

The entire build looks awesome!
I’m impressed with how much you and Marty were able to accomplish in just one day; even with the time lost to travel and getting water.

That’s a productive weekend! Setup looks great. You plan to cycle with any bacteria

That was an ambitious day! I think I could go by "TheLazyReefer" at the rate I do things in comparison.

Yeah. Going to do the fishless cycle method using Dr. Tim’s products. Plan on dosing ammonia and bacteria and test every day. I am guessing 3 weeks. I also have some Fritz Turbo new tank cycle bacteria and a bunch of Prodibio as well. Been doing a lot of research and a variety of bacteria doses properly helping counteract New tank syndrome. In the end I am good with a 30 day cycle. Hoping to avoid the dreaded STN of my acros this time around. So the current tank will stay up as long as it takes to make a smooth transition.

My thoughts exactly! I do things at an absolute snail's pace in comparison!

Looking sharp Adam, can't wait to see it progress.

Thanks for the compliments all. Tonight all I have done is added ammonia and cycling bacteria. Need a night off. Tomorrow night I’m hoping to get the pH probe and salinity probe calibrated and rolling. Will just take a couple small things at night now that I have a good three weeks to wait.

Fantastic job!

I dont think I have seen anyone go the blue route on the plumbing before - looks all high tech : )

Ill be watching this one - if it works out well (which I am sure it will) would love to hear what plan your research came up with in detail at some point?

When he told be to pee in his tank I thought it was a little weird but what the heck. The rimless design really shines when peeing from a step stool.
