Best Reef Salt? And why?

My question is how does IO land equal to TM?? This really is a budget rating. IO is the same vendor as RC. If any mix should be close to the same, those two should be. I've tried IO,RC,Kent and now TM BIO ACTIF and from my experience they all do the job.

Based on coral reaction, the corals seem to swell and open up much more after water changes. The TM salt mixes very quick and easy(clear water fast). I'd say TM is far way better than any I've tried (note I can only speak for the ones listed above). When you mix it the container is supper clean leaving nothing behind in container and I mean squeaky clean as if you cleaned out the container with something. Kent would be second with a nice CAL level and mixing well. Kent will leave a white coating on the container after water changes. RC was about the same as Kent with CAL levels but for me it would leave this dirty tanish film on container after water change slimy... IO well it's pretty much the same as RC actually mixed cleaner than the RC but with min cal/mag more a fish only mix.

So my question is, What exactly makes RC the best salt? The fact that it has the basics and keeps the wallet healthy?

I guess we can add all the supplements we need via dosing right(cost more money)? I don't know what’s the best but I like knowing I'm putting water in my tank that doesn't leave a nasty film in the bucket. It kind of makes me feel like the water is cleaner I guess. Also to Rays call out TM is the only salt that is Pharmaceutical grade (CLEAN).

just my 2cents :beerchug:

Lately I've been using RC... Having started with TM, I miss it sorely! I can't speak to the quality, like others have, but ease of use and mixability, TM is my favorite. Budget wise RC is great, but even my mom (12g nanocube) said "What happened to the other salt? This leaves stuff at the bottom when I mix it."

RC leaves stuff in bottom right?

The recurring theme throughout this thread can simply be put as.

The brand of salt you choose is not going to be deciding factor between success or failure in a reef tank.

Pssstt.. Rays Reef stocks it ;) (TM salt that is)

Just wondering.

Which sponsors stock which brands. I know most stock Reef Crystals and IO, but rarely would i see the other brands.

IO/RC here. Going to be adding seachem soon. I can get anything but TM though.

I just got a bucket of seachems salinity. It mixed soooooo fast and clearer than rc. Smells different also.... The mix results are on the bucket for that specific batch. Kinda cool.
I'm sure it will work not too sure if I will notice a difference though.

It might have been that I was at the seachem booth, or I was standing next to dirk to long at Macna.. But I heard TONS about the salinity. None of it bad.

Let me know what your experience is with it :)
