Ooh... I think I know how this is going to go. :ac39: Good luck!

I never fed it a thing hoping it would stay small forever ;) In my head I can keep it isolated from everything on some lower rock, but in reality he'll take a walk over everything valuable and make his way into a Vortech.

So, can you tell us which anthias species you do NOT currently keep in your tank?

Did Lemon give you any more information about its biology? Or which anthias is its closest relative? Larger or smaller species?
It would be interesting to know if you have a female or male. Is this fish submissive to any other males? Or just keep to itself?
Regardless, very nice fish!

And that comment about "isn't visually very special", not every fish needs to be a Mucha to be a work of art; like my Pictus Blenny.

There are still lots of species to try! He didn't say much about it, but he did know what it was right away. If I had to guess I would say it's in the same complex as hypselosoma, which I haven't kept. Acclimation and husbandry have been easy so far. Large foods were taken right away. It's been submissive in general but defends its little ledge by the torch coral pretty aggressively. It's also fun to keep a fish where there's really no advice to work from.

Totally agree. Visual appeal wears off anyway and you learn to appreciate the behaviors and interactions much more in the long run. Pretty fish are for girls :fritz:

Here's a close up of the color pattern near the caudal penducle in case anyone's search lands them here looking for an ID:

Reminds me of some dating advice I once received: Behind every beautiful women is a man sick of her sh*t

The Tuka male has been working on his display skills:

The females have also been sparring amongst themselves. Intense make out sessions. It's amazing how they mirror each other's posture; these photos looks like reflections. I've only observed this type of quarrel when anthias are establishing a dominance hierarchy at the outset. Once a victor is established, this isn't typical behavior. Since these two have been together for over six months this must be a dominance challenge from the subordinate.

Nice!!
Did you name "her" Bruce?!

I have to come clean and admit that I had to search "Bruce female" to know what you were talking about.

Here she is now, still quite a few operations to undergo. I'm hoping a lot more red comes in. Ventralis males look very different based on geography. These are the Cook Islands variety I think.

I took a little video today feeding from the algae clip. All of the fish seem to like the purple algae but some don't quite know what to do with it. The tangs, clownfish, and wrasses will all eat from it but I've noticed some of the anthias are starting to catch on a little too.

You can see my Free Shipping Chromis a little in the background. About eight months ago I made an order from Diver's Den that came in a few dollars under the $225 free shipping ceiling, but there weren't any cheap fish on Diver's Den. I added a Chromis for $4.99 from LiveAquaria to get over the limit. Diver's Den fish are shipped from Wisconsin but the standard LiveAquaria orders are fulfilled out in California. Knowing this, I sent them a quick email saying that it was fine to just not send me the Chromis, but they didn't see it in time and overnighted a single Chromis from California in its own separate box. Even though it ended up being cheaper for me, in a way I imagine he's probably one of the more expensive Chromis ever sold. I quarantined him and have been caring for him ever since.

I was looking back at the first page of the build thread and thought it would be cool to show the growth of the Baby's Breath favia. This is almost exactly 2 years of growth. It has encrusted pretty well for an LPS and has never received much direct light as I mounted the original frag against the vertical face of the right rock structure. You can see that the growth edges tend to have a little bit more interesting color than the mature polyps, which is probably why smaller, recovering frags always look a bit more interesting.

Some King Midas zoanthids I got a few swaps ago.

A nice profile of a juvenile Pseudanthias cooperi. The males will turn very pale and develop a bold vertical red stripe during courtship. The first time I saw it, I thought someone added a fish to the system without telling me.

I'm trying not too add too many Mandarin photos, but he's not making it easy.

Just took the time to read through your entire thread. Your tank is one of the nicest looking tanks ive Ever seen! I hope my new one can have half the success you have!

Thanks! I saw you were looking at the new Red Sea tanks. It's nice to see some more affordable modern-style tanks becoming the norm. Innovative Marine just announced the Lagoon line that's pretty similar; rimless, dark silicone, clean lines in the stand, etc. I hope we see more attention to design in the next couple of years like what happened in the freshwater world. Exciting times.

I actually placed an order with travis at new wave for the Reefer 250! should be here in less than 2 weeks! I love the look of the tanks and considering what you get they arent outrageously priced like others out there. After i get it ill start a build thread, but now i just sit here and wait for the tank and the light to arrive haha again, your tank is amazing.
