DarkSky's 220g Build (1 Viewer)

Fuck this hobby sometimes.

Been there. Done that.
Although, I was the one that dropped the light fixture into the tank.

I would let the light dry out overnight and tomorrow. Maybe let the fans run on full power but not the bulbs or anything. Then take some alchol and try to clean up the residue left over. Even if the light still works the salt residue will corrode any connections it has touched I would think. This really sucks and I feel for you.

For anyone confused about the picture, the cabling that comes pre-attached to the fixture snapped and dunked the light into my aquarium about 30 minutes ago.

Ok thats a bummer !! So sorry ! Question is how bad the damage is ? Is it covered by warranty when things like this happen without any fault of yours ?

Regards,
Abhishek

I have it disassembled and fans blowing on it now. One of the circuits that was dunked has major visible corrosion.

The end that went under contains all of the balasts and electrical for the entire fixture.

Most likely will be a total loss. Fixture is under a year old and they have a warranty, but even if they don't fight me and send me a new one it'll be 1 month before I get it since it had to be built and shipped from Germany.

If you need it to get by, I have a shit box led I'm not using yet that you could borrow to keep the frags alive

Not sure if it will help but I have lumemarc mini reflectors and m80 ballasts and a couple of 10k reeflux 250 bulbs .

But you would need a way to hang them

Dang man that's a blow... bunch of us have fixtures you can borrow if you need them. I'll be in the cities next weekend and a have a razar but would only cover 1/3-1/2 of the tank.

Throwing this out as an option.

I could House/babysit your sps frags in my tanks while you figure out your plan. I have the space and multiple mature tanks.

Thanks everyone, Nick and Amy are going to bring a spare fixture to Nox's meeting tomorrow, and I'm talking to Ronin about his 6 bulb 80w fixture that he's selling. I should be good for light until ATI gets back to me.

Sounds like you may be a little punch drunk. The Knox meeting is today, not tomorrow.

If you don't get the fixture working and they won't replace it I would love to buy it off you for cheap so I can tinker with it! Obviously I hope it gets fixed or replaced, but I do like to tinker on stuff like this haha

Ah yes. Sleep makes the day change numbers.

Yeah I was going to do the same. The circuit boards aren't anything complicated, and ATI sells replacement parts for all pieces of the fixture in their store. Worst case is I'll just rebuild it.

I've been talking back and forth with ATI's customer service department, so far they've offered to have me send the unit to California and have them replace all the components, or send me the components and have me attempt the repairs myself.

Since this thing is huge and arrived on a pallet, I can see why they offered the second option. I countered by asking if they could instead send me a new fixture, and I ship back this one using the packing material that I received from them. Waiting to hear back for approval from the higher ups on that one, but that'd be my prefered option, obviously.

They've been a pleasure to work with and very apologetic about everything, which is nice.

Update: They're going to ship a new fixture and swap the wet one. Even better, they have a spare in the California, so it'll get here faster than a month and a half.

ATI are good people.

Thank goodness! Looks like you may have good karma after all. Hopefully, that rubs off on dirtypickle soon
