Durand tank build (1 Viewer)

I’m currently just leaving a door gapped open for now and see what it looks like I the am. If this works. I may just router some slots high and low on the removable end panel for air flow I may had a fan as well. But try this first.
 
Tanks has been settling in well. Still fine tuning and messing with the scape a bit. But all the livestock is looking happy so far. Been watch is C02 levels and they are nice and low. In the stand.

Ive been having a little trouble dialing in the overflow. I used the spacer part that raises or blocks off the lower portion of te teeth to raise the water in the display. But to keep it higher the water is louder than I want going over the teeth and If I raise it to high water goes down the emergency pipe. So I think Ill either lower that spacer or completely remove and see if I can dial it in a little better for more of a silent run.

I’d knew I had alot of corals in the last tank but did not realize it was as many as it was. I fully expected that when I moved things over I was going to have more room to add some more livestock but not the case. LOL It might be time to start trading out some of the things I don't really want.

Has a little time today and made a cover for the over flow. Will try and make some sort of black out shade for the fuge light. Will post updates when its done.

one of my clowns Is not acting right. Hopefully something that will pass with a little time. Other fish and corals look good so not sure whats going on. I did test this morning and No3 was a little low so dosed, but nothing out of the normal. All other parameters looked good. I have just been struggling with fish over the last few years.

Tried to seee if I could buy a small clip on fan while doing my daily home improvement run. Nothing to be found at both larger stores. Figured if I could fins a quick clip on I would not have to modify the stand to house some PC fans. I’ll continue tHe hunt. Im sure I can find some someplace. For the time being I have 1 door off and I like being able to see the sump. When they are some what organized they are pretty nice to watch. LOL

You can find those at target/wall mart. They’re quite popular for dorms
 
I use the hurricane brand one from Amazon to cool my tank. It’s lasted 5+ years sitting next to a pool of saltwater!
 
vornado fan under the stand now. Will see how it does tomorrow. Doors were painted and stained this am. Sounded like a tornado in the garage with all the fans running at 4:30 this morning trying to fast dry stain and paint lol. Made a cover for the over flow and the cheato basket. And found a cute little basket to used for shrooms and zoas in the frag section. Just need to figure out light situation for display and that should just about do it for the build.

how did you attach the t-track to you tank?
 
Not attached. Sitting on the edge of the glass. If I keep this light setup as is. I will run the track through the table saw and widen it. So the glass can sit inside the track a little better. Maybe wrap the inside with felt to protect. But it feels pretty solid. I’ve bumped it a few times and nothing seems to move as it sits now.

Thread the end of the 80/20. 3D print a cap that attaches there with slot that hugs both the inside/outside edges of the glass. It will give it a slightly more 'finished' look and prevent it for falling. I personally would put a small protective surface between the aluminum and the glass. That could also be incorporated into the end cap, assuming you do one for the front and back ends to keep it level. Or you could also just do brackets that attach from the outside edges.
 
I love the thought process on that. It would make for a great light stand. I dont have access to a 3d printer or know how to code it. But if this light stand becomes a long term thing I may have to try and see if this could be sort of option. I was looking and swapping it out for 3/4” conduit bent to cantiliver over the tank and attach to one side of the stand. Sort of like this.

Ive got to figure out my long term solution for lighting the tank first and then decide how I’ll hang it after that. I bounce back and forth from another hybrid t5 or straight led. The led route I think just gives way more open water feel when looking over the water.
 
Monitoring temps and humidity I noticed humidity at 50% and 79° no fan. 45% and 75° with fan. Ran some slots into on panel with router to pull in fresh air as well. Ins slot larger for removal of panel since doors don’t have hardware. Just held in with spring magnets.

You still liking that Plank autofeeder? It's a "treat" I'm thinking of giving to myself with the new tank upgrade. Curious for your feedback.
 
I do really like it. I’ve struggled a little with knowing how much to feed but that’s just me being lazy and not truly dialing it in to what’s needed. The feeding tube likes to grow algae as well I found out with the tank move. So that will need cleaned from time to time. But what doesn’t. Lol. I like to toss frozen food in the tube as well and let it do the thaw and feed for me.
 
Oh interesting, that's good to know re: frozen food as well. I admit that someone mentioned to me placing the feeder in the sump, directly above the return pump. I really like that idea (less ugly stuff above the display) IF it actually works. I would plan on trying it if I buy one. That might also save some of the algae issues since it's darker in the sump.

Maybe you should be the guinea pig and tell me if it works if you put the tube directly over the return pump inlet :)
 
I did think and saw that. The idea for the tube is the food dropped lower in the tank and not on top and down the overflow. I was concerned the food would still drop down in the over flow if I came out the return line. But new tank new plan. Maybe worth trying.
 
Yea I hear you. I dunno how it will work either, going to find out :)

Feeding tube is not long enough to make it below the water level ☹️. Would have to add extension so might be a fun game for another day. I tried this on my last tank I remember now and a lot of the food just ended up sitting in the bottom of the return chamber but that was before I had this feeder with the tube. Even with a power head in that chamber it still collected. Not sure if the tube will make a difference or not.
 
Oh hrm, good point. I didn't think about the tube not being long enough, which obviously would defeat the purpose of the Plank doing the re-hydration etc. I will have to look at this. I might have to make a little acrylic stand to hold the plank "in" the sump itself (keeping track of how much the water goes up when the pump is off...barf.
