Fijicube 81 gallon (1 Viewer)

I had to put a strainer on my old tank to keep it from tornadoing inside the overflow box. I did this act for 2 years. Best I got was super tall emergency drain, short main drain with strainer and set it as best as I could with the gate valve. Hope you have better luck then I
Are there gate valves that are more precise than the schedule 80 ones found on BRS? It’s just weird that the smallest adjustment makes the water level in the overflow go up and down so much

That’s the only one I know of. I would even try turning or snuggin up in the direction I was wanting without moving it. Micro movement then leave for a long period of time. Also slowing down return pump helps.

One thing Im finding with my own DC pump as well is that any change in the return chamber via ato or dosing is changing the height in the overflow. If I can get my dosers and ato lines out of the return box things seem to stay little more stable in terms of water heights. Maybe this would help your situation?/

I am running it higher up close to the EO seems to be stable for now. I need to get some more silicone tubing as the smaller pump sits down in the sump further and will need a longer piece

New Varios 4 replaced the 6. Pump was definitely too big for 80 tank with 800 GPH max overflow. The smaller pump at 3/4 power is perfect (so far anyway). Small adjustments in the gate valve now don’t make drastic changes in the overflow box water level.

Two fish on order from Reef Collective. Laboute wrasse and Redline wrasse now in QT. Will hopefully get photos soon.

Great fish. That Laboute is a beautiful fish.

If you use an apex you can connect that pump and control even more. It allows you to control in 1% increments instead of 1,2,3,4,5 on the various controller.

I gave up on the Apex a while back. Maybe someday I’ll go back to a controller but with the Red Sea equipment I have now I use their App and seems to work for me. Haven’t moved to their return pumps only because I have always had good luck with Reef Octopus pumps.

Added my second Kessil A500X today. Debated where I was going to go with lights as I know one would not cover very well. I believe two on a 36” tank should cover well. Also had a near disaster with my ATO reservoir this morning woke up to water on the floor. Turns out the 10 gallon was not reinforced very well, the bottom seam split. Thankfully only about 3-4 gallons got on the floor although that was plenty. Went back to my old standby 5 gallon.image.jpgimage.jpgIMG_2901.jpegIMG_2900.jpeg

Added a Redline Wrasse from Reef Collective who did a great 30+ day quarantine for me. Fish is doing great and I can’t wait for my Laboute Wrasse to finish up quarantine. That will probably be it for fish. I ordered a fully quarantined clean up crew from Dr Reefs (40 assorted snails) that should be here Friday. I will then be turning on the Kessils slowly adding about an hour a week until I am up to a 12 hour schedule. I will be adding some coraline algae and go from there. Hopefully be ready for some corals in another month or two. Tank has been lights out for almost 4 months just the living room lights for the fish. Nutrients are starting to stabilize so will be interested to see if this startup schedule for dry rock works out.IMG_2927.jpeg

Added a clean up crew and turned the lights on for the first time. Running Kessil acclimation cycle at 10-20% for 2 hours a day to start will add another hour a day each week maybe more depending how it goes.IMG_2937.jpeg

Small cleanup crew in place. Some of the snails have coraline on their shells but am going to add two bottles of coraline after water change this weekend. Got the pink and purple strains. This time around I have decided no coral at all until I am able to grow coraline well. It’s kind of nice just caring for fish for a while. Lights have been on for almost a week, so far so good.

Well lights have been on for about a week. I bumped them up to 20%. Starting to see some brown growth on the rocks now. Still doing pretty large 50% water changes weekly. Nitrates are fairly good but phosphate still around .2 - .3 not sure why but did have a few snail casualties as my shipment was delayed in transit for almost 3 days. Otherwise I did purchase a new generator for keeping things running if and when the power goes out. Next big happening will be my Laboute Wrasses once it is out of quarantine.IMG_2949.jpeg

You won’t regret getting that Honda genny, other than now your power will never go out because that Murphy works in mysterious ways. I ran mine once in the last 4 years.

Yup bought it today as there was a chance of power outage and my old one weighs a ton and is loud as hell. Hoping it is like when I bought the snowblower at the end of last winter and didn’t use it at all this winter yet anyway

Haven’t updated in a while. Things are starting to get funky, no more white rocks. Haven’t seen any coaline yet but guessing it’s because of higher phosphate. Nitrates are staying under control 4-5 but phosphate is around .2 -.3 I am going to put some chemipure elite in and see if I can’t get phosphate down a bit. Also going to change up feeding practices a bit and stop using a baster with Reef Frenzy and Misis. Going to start just Misis with vitamins and small amounts of pellets with a pair of tweezers to cut down on the big cloud from the baster. Still waiting on my Laboute wrasse but hopefully soon.IMG_2971.jpeg

Ok, I checked phosphate again today and it was at .13 which is fine. I am confused as to why my Hanna tester said it was .34 yesterday. I am going to start doing consecutive tests as I did today as obviously the test from yesterday right after large water change was not accurate. Nitrates are testing consistently around 4-5. Once I am confident that phosphate is stable I might get a green slimer to test the waters.
