Fishfoo's 40g Rimless (1 Viewer)

Ufda! That is a nice chalice! Where did you get it?

Thank you, it's a SC Dynamite chalice purchased as a spec over a year ago from TCK. Finally starting to get some size to it.

RRC OP looks awesome!
Thanks, Nox! The OP has always been one of my favs, and it's super hardy as well. Survived some serious ups and downs in the beginning.

Love this tank! Did you have fish losses or did you rehome them?
I re-homed the convict tang. Even though it was still tiny, a friend with a much larger tank was showing interest in him so I figured it was for the best. One of the yasha gobies I found dead one morning. No clue what happened. The Rhomboid passed away for unknown reasons as well, but that was over time, unlike the goby. Not sure why I've been having such terrible luck with Flame/Rhomboid's, but I won't be buying anymore fish until a tank upgrade. Lately I've just been letting things cruise on auto pilot.

Can anyone guess who's currently in QT :)

Was able to take some pics of the tank after the move, and will post them soon...

November was quite the busy month. We closed on our new house in the beginning of the month, and a new house means a new tank!

Only kidding, still sticking with the 40gal (for now) I did however add a third "floating" rock structure by gluing the rock to some extra Tunze magnets I had lying around. Still undecided on if it will stay or go.

The move went smooth. No fish/coral losses, so I'll chalk it up to a success. I also told myself when I moved I was going to address the rats nest of cords surrounding the tank. The cabinet seems to have accomplished this issue, and the area around the tank looks much cleaner now.

Now I mentioned there were no fish losses during the move, but unfortunately a few weeks before the move I woke up to my pintail wrasse dead. This fish had been in my tank for about a year and a half with no issues or signs of illness whatsoever. Very frustrating having nothing to go off of or fix...

With the pintail gone, and rehoming the McCullochi Dottyback, there was a lot of empty swimming space in the tank that needed to be filled. I started by adding a male Melanesian Hooded Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus) from LA DD. He's a beauty, and will help replace the red color I lost with the dottyback.

Feeding time

There is also a resident in QT at the moment

I ordered the Lunate Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lunatus) and another fish for overnight delivery, however my luck with fish shipments somewhat ran out this time as there was a holdup halfway through, and Fedex wasn't able to deliver it for another day. When I received the box, one of the fish was DOA, and the Lunate was alive, but just barely. Thankfully he bounced back and was eating some LRS fish eggs by the next day. Once he looks fully recovered, I will begin medication. Hoping he pulls through as he is already becoming one of my favorites.

Looks like someone has been bitten by the wrasse addiction.
Great choices for your wrasses! The C. lunatus is a beauty!

Wonderful updates and photos. I like your fish choices and the tank is looking great even after a move! Well done!

How are the fish doing?

Still just the three (clownfish, lunatus, bathyphilus), but they're doing very well. The two wrasse made it through qt and appear healthy as can be. I still can't believe the lunatus pulled through after that shipping delay in early winter.

This tank is phenomenal if you get a chance to see it. A thriving mixed reef, well put together. Thanks for the tour Fishfoo.

For those into chalices, there is an unbelievable chalice slowly inching closer to fragging size.

Hope the Rainbow BTA is doing well for you! Thanks for stopping by, Doug.

Thats great!

Thought this was pretty interesting. I had just finished cleaning up from a water change and was about to walk upstairs when I saw this. The Lunate only seems to care/flash when the clown started hosting the green trumpets. After she leaves the coral the wrasse goes back to minding its business. My guess is that it was close to lights-out and the Lunate's cave is below the trumpets, and he wanted to let the clown know it was his sleeping spot. During this event the lights were very dim and blue, but I tried my best to make it more visible in post processing.

Looks great! That clown is holding its own.

My Lineatus flashes at everything in my tank at lights out. He’s the tank boss.

How’s the Bathy?

Nice catch!
That's an interesting theory as to why it was flashing the clown. I know that my wrasses have found specific holes for sleeping, so that makes a lot of sense.

And it's interesting to see which wrasses become the dominant fish in a tank. I would've thought that my pintail would've been the boss based on size, but the Eight Line Flasher Wrasse was king right from the get-go. But I know that if you have a swarm of wrasses, the dominance will shift between various fish. The 300DD at LiveAquaria has about twenty wrasse species and Kevin says that the dominance will pass from fish to fish over time.
