I have an idea why it's for sale already... They spent thousands of dollars on it and hundreds (if not thousands) on filling it with fish the same day they filled it with water and then everything died when it all cycled. Then they tried to clean it and realized it is a huge pain the butt.
I will admit I do not watch the show but I caight clips from the internet and I really don't understand how anything lives at all.
I guess the other possibility is that I have been tricked by hollywood... and they actually take time to get everything cycled first. If so, I will gladly stand corrected.
Who knows why the tank is for sale. Everything stated here is pure speculation. Maybe they decided they wanted a bigger tank. Maybe the owners had changes in their lives and didn't have time to maintain the tank anymore (which also happens in this club often enough). But, like I said in the other thread this company is one of the largest tank builders in the country and common sense tells me that this wouldn't be if they didn't know what they are doing. Look at the customer list on their website. One of their customers is Sea World as well as many other well known public aquariums.
For all we know they thought about the maintenance and built-in a fancy water change system. They could have given the owners special tools with which to clean and maintain the tank. But that wouldn't make good television or drive ratings and make the show money. And that is the point of the show is to entertain and make money not explain every piece of equipment or be an educational show. I don't think ratings would be good if they showed that redneck guy under a tank for 45 minutes gluing PVC and setting up a sump.
I personally look at their track record, client list and mix in a little common sense and enjoy the show for what it is, entertainment.
