gguertin's 180g In Wall Build (1 Viewer)

Thanks! Was really cool meeting everyone at the meeting :)

I am busy for the next 2 weeks but after that I will be dedicating a lot of time to cleaning up my wiring mess and rewiring my led's

I am planning on placing a fish order on monday... Seeing David G's setup has giving me quite a few ideas!

I wish I had room to do a in wall build like that. Tank Looks great. as far as connecting the 2 tanks together couldn't you use a bulkhead on each tank with a small pipe nipple and a union so it would never leak.

I put a few bulkheads on each tank, like you are describing should be a picture on here somewhere. It seems to work fine. I kind of wish I had just bought an acrylic sump that could do everything I want instead but only because it would have looked better what I have is functioning great so far.

Working like crazy this week on the QT System. I have it running now with 12 new fish
1 Salfin Tang
1 Naso Tang
3 Yellow Tangs
2 Clown Fish
4 Anthias
1 Diamond Goby

I had whisper filters for them but was told not to run them... From what I found on RC just the foam filters with the airstone and a heater is all I am supposed to need? Have you experienced differently?

As far as I know power filters are a good thing unless you are dosing meds as the carbon in the cartridge will absorb the medication. Sponge filters will work if they have enough beneficial bacteria on them and if the fish load is low enough.

I run a wet/dry on my QT tank. I like heavy biological filtration to nuke and possible ammonia due too influxes of fish (heaving in/out stocking at times). I happen to have the wet/dry so why not use it is also my thinking. I think Taku has a cheap wet/dry for sale now. Don't worry about Nitrite, doesn't affect salt water fish.

Chemical filtration only as needed. Use Instant Ocean and often it's cheaper to change out all the water than use carbon! :) I've been using the mid grade carbon from BRS when needed in QT environments, seems to work fine. $16 bucks for a gallon or so of it.

hmm interesting but not "as" toxic to marine fish seems a little odd. I will still let Nitrite drop to 0 in my systems before I add fish.

More yellow tangs......more yellow tangs.......more yellow tangs.........

I was getting nervous this is going to put me at 6 tangs... I have a blue in the tank already.

I am noticing the fins are a little beat up on the yellows in qt thinking about adding fish oils stuff for the fins... anyone have any experience with this? I don't think they have any real disease probably just from stress.

For mine, some got beat up a little more than others. They heal quickly as long as all eating well. I use all kinds of seaweed ( to get a variety ) but all my tangs go crazy over the Purple Julian Sprung seaweed the best. It's gone in a matter of 2 minutes where as all my other types green, brown, red they just nibble here and there and it takes hours to be gone. So I definately recommend the purple to fatten everybody up.

Looking GREAT GREG! Damn, you and David both have me itching so bad to get my 180 set up. I'm still stuck looking at an empty tank in my laundry room.

Love that QT set up. I'm for sure doing that same thing.

haha! I don't want to rush anything about this major build, but after going to Davids for the meeting just made me so anxious. I guess I'll just have to watch gguertin build his up and get some great pointers. Already looking at doing the same qt setup.
