I did a thing…. IM SR-120 incoming (1 Viewer)

Ha! I love my goby.. he for sure has the most personality of everyone. Well other than the filefish.. they are just weird in general.

It’s been a while! Spring gets busy for me so the tank got a few weeks of neglect. Having a hard time keeping my dkh in line. Trying to find the balance with use, water change, and kalk. My nitrates got a little high the last couple weeks. I usually keep them around 20. I was gone and forgot to have my renter change the filter pads for a couple weeks 😬. I’ll do about a 25% water change then let the carbon dosing do its thing.

Some of the corals looked unhappy this week when I got back. Between the dkh dropping and the it looks like most have started splitting could be a likely combo!

The fish are all fat and happy so that’s what I really care about!

Been a long time since I’ve posted. Been a busy summer. Tank kind of took the back burner while I’ve been job hunting. Thankfully that looks like it’s working out for me. Definitely going to be a change from what I’ve been doing.

Back to the tank everything is growing and happy minus my Duncan’s. They have been upset for the last month. My bright green torch has gone from 1 to 4. Fish are all getting along and happy! Found my porcelain crab hanging out on my Cheeto in the back filter. Still not sure how he made it back there but happy to see him.

Photos are early light. I’ll post more later.

It’s been a few months since I’ve really done any true maintenance on the tank. Between new job, summer activities, and other things the tank always takes the back burner in the warmer months. Honestly everything has been looking really good so I haven’t worried much about it.

I ordered new reagents for my testing kits and decided it was time to do science this morning. For not checking numbers since June it honestly doesn’t seem to bad. Some will say nitrates are high… but everything looks good! I was also down a skimmer for a week. Tiny snail made its way into the pump 😖.

Might be time to find me a blonde nasso. My favorite fish in the tank is probably my flame angel. I’ve never seen him nip at any coral. I did manage to spy an emerald crab still in there. Haven’t seen one in a few months figured they all died.

I think I saw a blonde Nasso at petco in minnetonka on Wednesday. Looked healthy. Probably 3" max but might be worth a call if you are serious.

Tank looking nice though!

Well seems like once a month my Duncan’s do something goofy and hide for a couple days. Now the torch doing it is a little odd. Numbers are in check. Thinking I might need to test for metals. I don’t see anything that stands out. Haven’t seen that crab in a couple months so that’s cool 🤣

Well tried to do some upgrades only to have it leak 😒. Now it’s going to sit a couple days while I get some other things done.

Well it’s been a long time. Summer gets busy for me and this year was no exception. Admittedly my tank kind of idled along. I did the standard water changes but I was noticing corals were not doing well. Found out my calcium reagent went bad. But also decided to do a icp test as I’ve noticed I am burning through di resin like crazy so I want to make sure my R/O unit is pulling the bad stuff out. So waiting on that. But I have made a few upgrades. Got a larger 55 watt uv and bought fleece rollers for both my frag tank and my 120. And because I like punishment I’ve decided to start culturing my own phyto and pods! Fall and winter hobby about to go full steam! Might upgrade to a larger tank. Looking at the 200 peninsula

Well I ended up sending in a water test. The first 3 photos are the tank water. The last photo is my RO sample. I knew my calcium was going to be high but that was my bad math. I’ll have to change out to a different resin in my di. I’ll have to bump my iodine a bit. But this winter I’m going to go back to dosing kalk and just tweeting the KH extra as it seems like my tank uses that quicker than calcium.

Well my second round of culturing worked out much better. Probably should cut it back a little even.
