Not at this time. Only testing I have been doing is checking salinity and occasionally alk.

Keep salinity at 1.025 and alk was at 8.3.

And as I am standing next to tank momma has a new clutch!

Not sure if you were gonna come to my meeting or not, but if you wanted me to take a look under the microscope, you could bring a little sample. At least then you’d know if it’s diatoms or what .

I think when the UV is horizontal it is recommended that the hoses point up. That way there is no chance of the bulb turning on dry and then getting hit with water.

I should have enough hose to rotate it. Thanks for the recommendation

Absolutely beautiful!

I wish I knew how to take pictures like some of you guys do on here with my DSLR. These are just unedited phone pictures with a clip-on orange lens.

Been dosing AFR for awhile now. As of today my alk is reading 7.0. I originally dialed it in to about 8.5 and left it for months without really checking it. Since the beginning of the year I have been trying to get it up from low 6s. Every few weeks I increase the does by a few ml. From last summer to today I have gone from 50ml day to around 75ml a day. My reading today is 7.0.

I do AWC so I do AFR interval dosing after. Completed by about 7pm.

I need to increase again so I have a few options.
1. Add new interval
2. Increase other intervals
3. Scrap intervals and just do one.
4. Should I actually dose something else?

As of right now alk is the only thing I have been monitoring. Have other test kits but my ability to have consistent testing results varies. Trident is currently not an option.

Things changed a bit on this and I am looking for some suggestions. I was able to pick up a used Trident and got it all set up. It has been running for about a week and a half now. I have been dosing 90mL of AFR daily (5 intervals spread out the day). This was raised over the course of two weeks.

Here are my current parameters:
Alk - 8.24
Calcium - 560
Mag - 1285
pH - 7.86

I was increasing the dosing based on the ALK but not measuring my calcium. My calcium is quite a bit higher than I would like now that I can see the values. I suspect that the calcium was high before but after my last AFR dose change it likely went up. From the Tropic Marin website:

So, I should decrease the AFR. By their online calculator I am under their maximum dosage. I know quite a few people use kalkwasser so that is what I was thinking about trying out. I want to phase out AFR if possible unless there is added benefit to using both. I am not sure the duration of time I should be performing a switch over. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Should a start backing off the AFR and letting tank parameters fall and slowly introduce something else in?

Should I skip kalkwasser and do individual A & B dosing?

I do the kalk and A B rout. I mix up 4 gallon of kallk and pump in some each day. Lasts about a month. That allowed me to add calcium and alkaline back in when tank was new and just increased Kalk for awhile. I then started dosing A and B on top.

Kalk gives a base increase in alk and calc plus raises PH. Trident and AB allows me to dial in Alk around 8.3 and Calc around 480

I would just balance things out with balling B (or BRS). It’s the easiest solution given you’re comfortable and successful with AFR. Kalk is just calcium and alkalinity, AFR has all the other pieces.

I ended up ordering the Tropic Marin balling B and kalkwasser. There is an initial dosing calculator for AFR on Tropic Marins website. When I put in 250 gallons it says I should start at 47ml. I adjusted my dosing to 40ml to see what it does. I am hoping that my calcium and alk slowly drop over the next week or so until I can set up dosing the part B.

Not sure if everybody's pH has these swings but I would like to try and increase my overall pH by dosing kalkwasser while the lights are off. Overall, I anticipate it to raise the pH average. I will likely just pick a dosing amount for the kalkwasser and adjust the other two to try and be as consistent as possible. Hopefully I don't nuke my tank! If I am doing something I should not, please let me know.
