I agree the plus would be the flexability in the light height, but the down side are the cables from the ceiling.

Thats the drawback unfortunately. One of the reason behind the open top was to also disipate heat especially with MH. You could possibly have a rail or a type of bar across one of the the canopy to hang the reflectors. Even a nice 10-12 in. built in top cover that sits on top of the canopy; that way you can retro fit your reflectors and still vent like an open top. possibly even a built-in dual fans on the topper instead of the typical fans on the side.

Wow, now I'm getting excited to get mine going again, lol

I'm following along...be sure to post lots of pictures! I'm just a newb but I'm also building a small stand/canopy (70 gal). I'm incorporating a lumenbright mini- which is about 12 inches off the waterline. I wish I would have built in the ability to adjust the height of the reflector/MH unit. Sounds like you are already on that. I'm looking forward to checking out your lighting design.

With the help of some strong family members and friends we got the 215 and stand down stairs in the basement. Been working on the plumbing and have it pretty much completed. I kept it simple running 2 separate drains and have the return T'd off from the single return pump to the 2 tank returns.
Sump is a 75 gal tub I picked up at Fleet Farm and you can see the Octopus extreme 300 skimmer. I have someone stopping by tomorrow who I hope will be building the custom canopy that will work with the 3 Lumen Bright reflectors.
Here are a few pics of the tank

Here is the sump. Once I have everything in place I will be covering it with plexiglass to cut down of the evaporation

Here is the main rock work that I will be using. Now I just have to move it from the table and rebuild it in the tank. :) This is a little over 4 feet across and 21 inches high. I am thinking of building a smAll stand out of PVC to put it on and raise it up another 2-3 inches. I have 5 40 lb bags of the "Special Grade" substrate on order and will be picking that up next week.

This was rock from my seahorse tank that I got from Jeryy (JNS) way back when. The shapes were so cool I held on to it thinking that sooner or leater I would put it to good use. I gave it an acid bath last month during one of the few warmer days.

From what I read on different posts is that by the time you are done it is no longer acidic and basically saltwater. I hope they are right because I just dumped it in the yard.

Yea, once again the neighbors were wondering what the heck I was doing. :)

I have a feeling the neighbors of most reefers have those thoughts roaming through their heads at least once in a while.

When I was setting up my tank and rinsing sand in our parking garage I recieved wuite a few oddball stares.

Tank looks great! Is it starfire front? Done any modding to the octo 300?

I remember a blurb on the news a year or so ago where a drug bust took place here in the cities, police thought someone was purchasing large amounts of odd chemicals to make drugs. Turns out it was a local reefer. I'm waiting for the cops to show up at my place.

Yup, it is the Ultimate series with the starfire front.

That was someone in the club. If I remember right a utility worked was fixing something in their house and he smelled vinegar the person was using to clean. Thinking it was a meth lab the worker reported it to the police who in turn raided there house.

It is pretty much ready for the water tight test, but I want to get my rock and sand in there first. I am picking up my substrate tomorrow and hopeful have the rock work done this weekend.

Someone from Reeflounge has been reported to the police three times for growing weed in his apartment because his halides glow bright blue against his windows.

Can't wait to see this baby up and running, looks great already!

Scott from All Aquatic Pets told me he had the cops knock on his door a while back when he had his stor in his house. All the Halides in his basement!
