Just picked up 5 bags of the special grade sand. I am hoping to rinse and put in the tank this weekend. I will post pics once I have it done.

Well the tank is wet and I am beginning to add the salt. Had a small set back when I pulled a real bone head with the plumbing but got it straighten out and everything is running fine. Chad (Achilles Tang) is coming out tomorrow to get the final measurements for the canopy, so I am hoping to have it up and running in another 2-3 weeks. Not sure about the tunze rock yet. Right now I just placed it in the corner so I would have more water movement.

does sand stay in front of the tunze rock? or does it get blown away

That will be sweet when it grows in...Lookin' good, Ken.

I will let you know after a few days. I just put it in the rock tonight. It blew some sand when it first started but then settled down.

Answer is No. it slowly sank deeper deeper into the sand. I had some thin acrtlic laying around so I cut a piece to more or less match the foot print of the tunze rock. I move the Tunze behind the rock work and place it on the acrylic. It seems to be working and not sinking into the sand.

I also found the wrasse I thought died. When I was pulling some rock out of my sump, there he was swimming around. Becuase I could catch him he has the honor of being the first fish in the new tank.:)

how's the parameters look Ken? Any spikes?

Everything is at zero - I used the frozen shrimp method to get things going and also put in some LR from my old sump. Amomnia was up for about a week and then dropped down, same with NO2, or is it NO3 (i would never make a good chemist :) ). Anyways all parameters regarding the cycling are looking good. Now I need to work on the Ca and Alk which are both a little low so as soon as I get the canopy and add the lights I will be good to go.

I got calcium chloride if you need to bring up your CA and soda ash for alk/ph.

Well I can die a happy man. For the first time in over 10 years in this hobby I was able to do a water change without lifting a single bucket of water. :)

Did my first water change in the new tank and it worked great. Following ideas off of other threads I "T'd" off the return and ran 1/2" tubing along the wall to the floor drain on the opposite side of the laundry room. I unplugged the ATO, opened the gate valve and drained between 25-30 gals of water.
I have 2 40 gal RubberMaid trash cans that I use for top off and mixed saltwater. I threw a pump into the mixed saltwater one, plugged it in and filled the sump back up to where I wanted it. It could not have worked better.

Chad has all the parts for he canopy so I am hoping to have it real soon. I will post pics once i have the lights installed.

Ken, looks great! I never thought much about the tunze rocks, until I saw your picks above. Do you think they will clog more? Do you plan on attaching frags to the tunze rock?

Nice to hear about the water changes..... the bucket handling is always an issue.

I actually moved the tunze to behind the main rock work so I have 1 at each end pointing out. When I first turned on the one in the pic it slowly sank down into the sand bed. When I moved them I cut some thin acrylic to place under each one so they dont sink.
I could see putting some low light frags on them but not sure yet. Ultimately I am thinking of placing some of the live rock from the old tank along the back side in between the tunze so the fish will have a few more hiding places.

I got to see this in person last weekend and it's beautiful. It's hard to grasp the sheer size and depth of the tank in pics. The rockwork is completely in the middle of the tank and the Tunze Rocks are now placed behind the main structure - and fit there without smashing up against the back glass or the amin rock structure. There's a lot of swimming space in there. The rockwork is all epoxied together and looks very, VERY nice.

This is going to be an awesome tank! :beerchug:

Couldnt wait for the canopy. Here are a few pics of the new tank and some of the corals I have moved fromthe old tank. My apologies forthe bad tank pics. I just couldnt get a nice pic of the tank.
