LPS Eye Candy! (1 Viewer)

Well, I've had issues with the 454's, so I'm prone to partially blame them and even more so if all 3 are 454's, but I would also say moving them up was probably not a good move for them either. I'm not sure what your options are for an 18" bulb, but I have to say I'd recommend switching them out for something else, as I've had a lot of bleaching issues with the 454 bulbs when I tried them.

The one that's turning brown could be getting diatom growth on it if it's receding. Move them to the shade and hope for the best.

Also, have you tried raising the fixture up off the tank a bit more to diffuse the bulbs and lessen the color segregation?

Thanks :beerchug:

I basically have 3 choices of bulbs and all of them are pretty bad choices LOL

Time for a 24" or 30" fixture. Heck, I think you'd be better off getting one of those cheap Nova Extreme fixtures with 2 x 24w bulbs just to increase your choice of bulbs. You can pick up one of those off Drs. Foster & Smith for like $75.

This is retrofitted into a biocube. A fixture is a no-can-do everything else is healthy and growing, its just these pink polyps. Thanks for the help though. :) If I remember correctly Ray used all 454's over his tanks for quite some time. And his uglies did pretty well although I don't believe he was exactly overjoyed with the performance of the bulbs.

You can ask Ray, but in my recent conversations with him it sounded like he may have started to see some issues over the long term. I think he was happy initially but the results of long term use were less stellar. Still, as a retrofit, that does leave you in a tight spot. You may be unable to keep the pink polyp happy, but first try moving them down and into the shade and see if that helps.

Majority of the bulbs were 454s on my original frag tanks, but it didn't do much other than astetics. It was also time to replace the bulbs and decided to go to ATi bulbs atinics/blue plus/purple plus instead of continuing with 454s. As Zack said in time it made my corals a little translucent/bleach look, but again I don't know if I can blame them directly as their were other parameters involved.

Would I still use 454s, maybe 1 at most 2 bulb in a 6+ bulb fixture but not as my main light source.

I would say it would be harder to pin the blame on these bulbs if there weren't other testimonies, mine included, that they have had the same effect in other tanks, and after switching back to blue+ the problems have corrected themselves for me. Not that there couldn't be other contributing factors, but it does seem to be a common element.

I know everybody on here hates favias, but I thought I'd share a few shots from tonight anyway.

I always wanted post something in this thread and the other eye candy thread, all I can say is WOW :beerchug: nothing more concrete to say :goldfish:

OMG I hate that favia in the middle, blue/purple with red centers! Yuck! I hate it so much! Dang ! Throw that away please (into a bag full of saltwater and in my hands!) :gay1:

NICE looking corals

How do you remember all these names? Do you write down the names and where you placed them in the tank?

It's just like all the Latin names of the fish; you get used to remembering that kind of stuff. We were at the MN zoo the other day and my wife was asking what kinds of fish there were, so I started giving her the Latin names and she was like "whahuh?" It surprised me how many I could actually remember.

It always gets people when Jamie busts out the Latin names of all the pelvicachromis species we have kept. It gives her instant street cred. Lol.

So what bulbs are you running still the blue+, fiji and 10k? Also do you use the same combo over your zoas?

Looks awesome!!

Cornbred Mummy Eye Finally coming back after some over-fragging; I was down to 1 eye a few months ago. Now it's looking better than ever!
