.Marshall's Saltwater Experience (75g Display + 37g Frag) (1 Viewer)

cool, didn't think they hung around much on the sandbed, when I had mine it was on the glass most of the time...

For the first couple weeks they did that, scooted around the glass all day which was very un-appealing. But now they gang up in low flow spots where I may have some detritus build up from time to time, like in the picture above; below my impromtu frag rack!

Are you gonna hit up that Reef Raft Live Sale?

I am tempted. Especially since it is REEF RAFT and it is their first sale. ;)

http://www.reef2reef.com/forums/r2r-giveaway-contest-forum/119758-enter-chance-win-one-three-gift-certificates-reef-raft-usa.html

Get real koletang! OF COURSE I will be there! Lol, not long though, I start annual training for the guard the next day so I have to get some good sleep the night before. I already have been texting Tony at Reef Raft about holding my corals until I am done with annual training so I will only be on the live sale for a couple of hours. Not going to be sniping real high end stuff, maybe one..or two.. I am just going to be there for the 1$ corals and prizes, mini-games, etc. Oh and to see the new releases :)

Will you be there?

It makes me wonder how these people manage to get such good contacts to get these kind of corals to them. I almost fell off my chair when I saw the RR Sabertooth.

I will probably stop in for the cheap stuff as well. But at least they have finished their USA website so now it is easier to get their stuff in the future.

I am entering for the gift cards today (That is one odd contest).

Yeah their stuff is ridiculous.. so much so they can demand that kind of money! But people WILL pay it!

Yeah, they do have great stuff. And their corals are not gimmicky or over-pushed products (cough, SEXY SEXY SEXY, cough), they are the real deal.

Towards the end of the eye candy thread they were talking about the owner's secret to his coral's color. I guess he feeds them constantly. I'd assume Zeo or Fauna Marin products. Maybe Oyster Feast.

Hahaha.. oh Sexy Corals.. smh. I heard Reef Raft uses Fauna Marin as well.

I have been experimenting lately with feeding twice as much (+ BRS Reef Chili) and Skimming more and I am getting good results in the colors of ALL my corals. Before I was unable to keep LPS because my nutrient level was so low. Now I have a couple happy chalices, extremely happy zoas and acans, and my SPS color is *better* not stellar yet but better. I am still trying to get my alk under control in the display tank after my apex went crazy and gave me a nice alk spike. Adding 20 (mostly) SPS frags doesn't help stability either!

I will also be switching out one of my Coral+ bulbs for a KZ New Generation. The 2x Coral+'s had a tad too much red for me.

New Bulb layout will be

Blue+
Blue+
KZ New Generation
Coral+
Blue+
Blue+

...I was thinking about switching out 1 Blue+ for an Actinic bulb but I am still on the fence about it..

Just got back from 2 weeks away from home and the girlfriend did very well taking care of the tank. Though I am still "watching" some very slow STN from the base up on some colonies. Coral color is as good as it has every been and there is new growth everywhere, just some pesky STN! Hopefully now that i'm home I can get the tank back in to a routine and see if I can kick this STN. I imagine it is a combination of the Alk spike I had and 2x Blue+ bulbs staying on for 2.5 days straight..

Yep my experience bottom up is too high alk or too aggressive carbon dosing or combination of both. Lower to 7dkh and see what happens.

Lights left on usually causes tops to burn so unlikely the cause in this case.

DG already said it, I used to run alk at 9-11dkh with no visible stn; sometimes higher... But drop in a couple drops of vodka or vinegar.. The first thing I'd see is nice polyp extension and the second would be signs of stn. Stopping carbon normally took care of that along with slowing or stopping alk for a couple of days. But when the colonies got large the alk would fall very fast... Something to watch out for
