Maxspect Gyre Discussion (1 Viewer)

Ordered and put on the new magnet mount and went back to a pulse mode, quiet.
I cleaned it up for the first time and found three broken fins on a rotor, different places. I was running it on an alternating gyre mode. I don't know if it couldn't handle the stress or something may have gotten in flow cage. Never stopped working though.

I hAve two 130's horizontally positioned on a 68 gallon tank. 36x19.5x21.5. I sold my three mp10's and love the new flow, with no dead spots any more. Corals seem happier and more open.

Well some gyre news I guess, I haven't seen much online bad about them so hopefully this isn't the start. I got home this morning and my corals looked super pissed off and it seemed like I had very little flow in my tank. I looked under my stand at the control for my gyre and it was blinking red and the pump was not working
(I do inspect and clean my pump monthly if not more as algae starts to grow on it) but after researching what that meant I took it out and figured I would do my six month cleaning on it. I soaked it in vinegar and scrubbed it down with a toothbrush inspecting the rotars for damage as I went but I found nothing wrong with it which seemed weird so after putting it back together I threw it in the tank and got it dialed into where I had it. It worked great again for about 30 min and then shutoff and had the blinking red light. I un plugged and re plugged it in for it to work again this time it was about an hour or two before I realized it wasnt working again. So I took it apart and put it back together. Still the same story 30 min then off. There was nothing getting stuck in the rotators and it was definitely submerged in water. After taking it apart and putting it back together one more time and having it not work I decided to just swap out everything with the replacement parts that come with it but that still didn't work. So at this point I have two Koralias from my mixing tank in the tank for flow and will have to see what I can do in the mean time until I get this one fixed.

That's no good. I've been waiting impatiently for the 170 model to come out, another few month I guess.

Does anyone else's controller get hot on the Gyre? I'm talking the controller that comes with it, if anyone uses it. I picked mine up the other day (it'd only been running for a week or so) and the controller was pretty hot to the touch. Wondering if this is normal?

What setting do you run it at? Mine is cool to the touch but I only have it at around 40% of it's max capacity.

Well good news for me, aparently since I had one of the first models shipped this was a known issue for them. It was as simple as getting a new controller shipped out to me which should arrive Friday.

I don't know if there is a way to know which units were suspect of this happening but I would watch/have a backup ready if you purchased one of the first ones made just in case

I am running it on the constant mode at 30%. I don't think this would be one of the first ones made. I just purchased it maybe a month ago.

It doesn't seem as bad now as it did before. But, I'll keep an eye on it.

Sorry for the confusion, i was just following up on the service I received with my broken unit

As for your questionI have no idea why yours would be doing that. Mine never got warm at all, I would open a ticket with coralvue and ask them it might be an issue with wiring inside of it that is causing it to get hot

Hey guys, after using the gyre for a while and some of you using the Vortechs, Would it make more sense for me to get a gyre 130 in a 36x21x20 tank or a second mp 10? Trying to order all the pieces for my next build! Thanks!

it depends on how you want your rock work to look. The gyre works at its best when their is alot of flow through the rocks and not blocking the flow from the Gyre, if you put obstacles in the way then you will create deadspots and then you'll be like why did I buy this? So make a decision on what your tank will look like then make the choice.
