After a long time planning and organizing, I am finally breaking the 100 gallon barrier. I am a realistic man, and this will probably be my last tank atleast for some time as im sure Ill end up having kids in the next few years. Anyways, here we go!

I have purchased everything below, and only need 1 or 2 things for the build to be complete. Still waiting on some equipment though so not going to be picture heavy right away.

Tank - Custom 125 gallon tank from SC Aquariums and matching stand. 48"x30"x20", starphire 3 sides, eurobraced, drilled for reef savvy ghost overflow.
Sump - 40 Breeder with baffles. Originally made at SWE.
Skimmer - BK mini 180 gen 3
Return - RO Varios 6 DC pump
Lighting - 2 GHL Mitras LX7's AND 36" ATI Nanobox hybrid fixture (not sure how im gonna make them work together but i dont think either lighting solution is enough on its own.)
Rock - 30 lbs dry fiji from brs, 50lbs dry from reefcleaners, 20 lbs pukani dry from brs
Sand - 90 lbs Tropic eden reef flakes
Neptune apex classic
Neptune Dos
Tunze ato


Last thing i need is Flow. With the tank being 30" wide it will need more pumps than a typical 48" tank. Here are the current configs i am considering.

4x mp40 (already have 1)
2x mp40, 2x tunze 6105
1x mp40, 2x neptune wav
2x gyre xf230

(input or opinions of the above would be greatly appreciated!)

I am not going to be doing an SPS tank, but it will have some sps. Likely i will focus lps and anemones to be honest, but will have 5-10 select sps pieces in as well.

livestock (so far)
1 old ass clownfish (had her for about 10 years through various tanks)
1 Six line wrasse
1 purple dottyback

Planned livestock
1 Tomini Tang
1 Lightning maroon
1 Midas Blenny
2 Royal Gramma
1 Lawnmower OR starry blenny
1 Diamond sand sifting goby

Potential livestock (Things ive never kept but might like to try, wouldnt get all of these though.)
1 Marine betta
1 Red hawkfish OR longnose hawkfish
Lyretale anthias trio
leopard wrasse
 
I love my mp40, but also have wanted to try the Neptune wav, so I would personally go with that combo. Looking forward to the build!

My only concern with the Wav's are they are direct stream flow, with the tank only being 48 long but 30 wide i feel that this will leave a lot of dead spots..
 
This isn't a total solution but I've been shocked how effective my lock-line mods were. They really have a wide flow which moves all over.

Got a walkthrough on the mod? Or a product? I could turn the varios up and run something like that along with 2 mp40's or wav's.. guess i never thought of using the return to actually provide useful flow lol

Towards bottom of the page. BRS also sells some that create more flow but doesn't randomize, however are molded pieces which may hold up better.

Mounting a pvc coupling that's just slightly bigger then the lock-line (leaving a gap) would also work but not likely as nice looking.

These will absolutely increase flow without needing to increase pump speed.

One thing to keep in mind about using the return, depending on your sump setup, macro algae cultures, and micro bubbles may be an issue if the sump can't handle the extra turn over if you speed the pump up.

It'll have some don't worry! Mostly classics like Oregon tort and garf bonsai. Also stylopora cause I suck at sps and the ones I just listed will probably die and I need a fall back lolol

Acros are overrated to be difficult . All you do is keep alk constant . It all matters where you get your acros from . Trust me - it's super easy once you have the right acros to begin with from the right place / person . I cannot enough emphasize how important it is to spend after great healthy frags which makes everything else like a cake walk . Lastly , the simpler the system the more easily you will be successful at keeping acros .

I've had them before, and they grew alright until I got dinos in the system. I mostly prefer the other stuff right now. It's more fun for non reef people to see everything moving in the current not to mention it's easier on me to take care of. Like I said I'll definitely have some, and probably mag anemone which are far from easy but the tank won't be sps dominant :)
