Am I the only one that CANNOT for the life of me figure out how to open these bags? There is some type of opening/foldable spout that ends up not really working. I’ve been ordering them for the last 5-6 years and struggle each time….

In all seriousness, I’m curious if there’s some feedback here. I just recently am switching to Red Sea and bought the large bag on Black Friday. But I have not opened it yet.
I suspect the spout thing you’re talking about is just the excess plastic that gets folded in when they form the tops of that style of bag. I don’t necessarily think it’s intended as a spout.
I have been told that the best practice is just to dump the entire bag into a 6 1/2 gallon bucket with a resealable lid for moisture free storage.
But again, I’m looking forward to the responses from the crew here.

We'd just use scissors in the fish store. Then again we had the 600 gallon mixing tubs...
Do you really need to pour it out with the spout? That feels like an awfully long time holding 55.5 lbs of salt....

Or, hear me out: 2x 3 gallon buckets with resealable lids. Just make sure to weight it out.

Agree, it’s a lot to hold up. I just figured there was a was and reason, it’s a sealed bag except this opening/spout….intrigued. Cut and pour is what I’ve done….kept previous buckets and bags for the purpose of dealing with these bags.. feel like what am I missing?
Just like the little string thing on rice bags, it’s a total mystery to me.

That’s what I did back when I used this, saved the buckets. Now I use pre measured 50 gallon bags of Accura 1 salt. For emergency large water changes I also have a backup of 50 gallon bags of Instant Ocean on inventory.
