You can do it!

The edge is a 6 gallon tank, but as the other clint found out, they don't hold 6 gallons. I think we figured it closer to 5.

dude nice! what was the total cost of this build??

so far I think its in the 300 dollar range... (which includes, rocks, sand, tank, lights, heat sink, spray paint, )

Didn't WANT to spend that much (considering the tank was only 80) but I'm definitely happy with the results so far, and the color of the lights is exactly what I was hoping for , so I can't complain.

The spread of the light from the LEDs does leave a bit to be desired, but coral placement can at least somewhat negate that effect (lower light corals on the outdside, high light inside)

On tap for today:
I still need to drill 2 holes in the side/back of the back area to insert potentiometers through.

Also need to cut an acrylic cover for the top (which I think will end up being some sort of enclosure built into the LED fixture itself unless I change my mind) to protect the LEDs from salt spray.

Now everyone go vote!

300 is not that bad for a 6 gallon nano with LED's..

And I already voted ;)

thanks!

Last night the pump locked up again (while I was sleeping) .... going to keep on eye on that, but i've got a replacement on the way since the original that's in there now arrived cracked.

i know absolutely nothing about LED's but i was looking on LEDsupply.com and noticed they had 42 degree lenses that you can put on, might give you more light coverage.

Yeah, i've seen those. I think the issue is more that you have a box covering the lights at the edges going a lot closer to the water level (practically sitting on top of it) so even if I just put a lightbulb inside the hood, the only direction it could come out would be straight down. I MIGHT (although I don't think it'll happen) cut the sides of the hood out to allow the light to come out that way, but I think i'm going to see if its an issue first , or if i can just use it to my advantage and place different types of coral in different places
