I should know the answer but....i don't. When calibrating a new refractometer, while holding to light, adjusting screw head, the scale reads below the 0 ( zero) line. Should it be set to 0 or left as is? Currently set up reading scale at 1.026 but may possibly be far below the target number. which may affect all other parameters. Old man making rookie mistake. TIA
 
When you calibrate it, you need to use calibration solution. They are only accurate within a few SG/ppt where they're calibrated at, so you want 1.026 reference solution to maintain accuracy within that range.

It doesn't really matter where the 0 is at when you do it that way. Though if it's super off, the refractometer might be defective.
