well, I know you're supposed to have a nice skimmer and such to remove the bacteria bloom you get when dosing a carbon source, but I'm wondering if a turbofloter with an OR2500 on a 75g tank would be considered robust enough to accomplish this. Anyone have any suggestions? I haven't done a ton of searching yet, as this tank is the first I've had that I see could benefit, so feel free to point me where ever I need to be searching otherwise...

You need to read the thread on RC about dosing vodka. its like 50 some pages long.

You do NOT want a bacteria bloom, you want to remove the bacteria biomass... Read the thread and the dosing instruction...

as I stated, I'll read up if there's reason, I just wanted to know if people thought a TF1000 with OR2500 on a 75 could make this method possible.

jeez ya'll, someone with some experience could just say "a turbofloter would be enough, get reading."

sorry I have no experience with either.... You definitely want to have too big of a skimmer....

I also find reading on RC can be tedious because I don't know who to trust; there is a lot of conflicting information. I understand there are many ways to skin a cat, but I'd rather not spend time deciphering who's talking out of their ass.

same here at tcmas as rc, just more of then due to sheer size. I've been doing it for while, ~6+ months... Too many readers not enough doers.... There are two on rc that know there stuff about vodka jens and jorg.... I can tell you all about it but I don't know about those skimmers :(

If you started it - would you see a buildup of slime or something if your skimmer was inadequate?

gotcha. I'll do a bit more research and maybe tomorrow night we can chat a bit about it in person, if you're going to DG's.

yeah I'll be there, have a lot of stuff to pick up :) I'll be there at 8 or so...

cool. turbo flotor is a nice skimmer on a budget. usually rated for 250 gallons, though about.com says 500(yeah RIGHT!). Anyway, it's a skimmer with a fairly decent rep. I'll get the low-down on dosing tomorrow and hopefully become a doer not just a poster.

I'll be there too and have been dosing vodka for 2+ months. as far as I know the only ones in the club that are dosing are Mattb, Myself, And I know David did for a while but not sure if he still is. Is there anyone else i'm missing?
And you will get slime in your sump/tank good skimmer or not.

I believe Stan doses some sugar.... You get slime your tank? I do in my sump, I get less slime in my sump when adding some bacteria cultures.... It'd be good to compare notes, the good and the bad.

I havent noticed any slime in my tank except the algea that grows on the glass is white nowlol
Yes I agree must compare notes.
MUST PICK BRAIN

Yes, Energy doses Everclear. He's talked me into doing it after seeing his outstanding results. It helps that I have a larger system and can easily reduce his dosage to my tank. I have a Reef mania PS 12-4 with a wet neck rated for over 1000 gallons on a 450 gallon.

I wouldn't dose with a TF1000 due to it's inability to stay dialed in. It's borderline big enough when it's running optimally. In fact, I would say it is. Having run them for long periods in the past, I've had too many times when it hasn't been skimming at all and it needs adjustments. Maybe it was just mine, but that's my experience with TFers. I would look at it as not being willing to run a TF on a 150 and IMO you want a skimmer rated for double your tank size.

well, I've got mine on a 75, so it's rated 3x higher than my tank. I've got a nice needlewheel air restriction on it and I'm using a feed pump. I haven't had to readjust it once, but we'll see how that lasts...

I feel my skimmer is border line big enough for my tank. its a Euro-reef rs180 fully modded to include recirc mod, gate valve, and mesh mod. My tank is a 120 with 40 breeder sump and I estimate to have 140 gallons actual volume. euro-reef rates this skimmer at 450 gallons. With a heavy bio-load its rated for 180+ Stock

I stopped on my show tank. I believe my flaw was not feeding the corals enough during the process. I'm not having any hair issues or anything so discontinued.

On BJ's 29g tank I have still been dosing but haven't really been ramping up like your supposed to. I only want to keep the nitrates under control.

you'd need everclear with stan's tank, yours too mike.

BK mini 200 on 120, very high bioload.

The other thing is you need to have some phosphates or dosing vodka won't work. Especially with SPS, nitrogen limitation can be worse than high phosphates.
