Well I won't be winning any awards for plumbing today. I got an abyzz to replace one of my VarioS 8's because it cannot handle the plumbing and makes alot of noise. I switched the pumps around and it's clearly a plumbing issue and water pressure.

So to redo my plumbing all I had to do was drill a larger bulkhead (2" instead of the 1.25"). The hole drilling went well until there wasn't enough room for the flange inside the sump.

Solution... cut out a larger hole, patch with acrylic on the inside so the new hole (third one drilled) will be I a good spot. Problem is my three tubes of acrylic solvent were old and getting enough to cover the patch (quickly) was a struggle. I did get it in place and all seemed well... came back after cleaning up to find my patch cracked from clamping too hard and the solvent seems to have weakened it while curing.

Fast forward, it was too late to remove the patch so more patches and plugs and holes and silicone.

Oh and I have to leave in the morning for three days before it dries. Yeah!

I know I've done worse, I just can't recall... Good luck. If it's acrylic solvent in theory that stuff bond as strong as anything. If it's silicone... let it dry completely...

So far so good... no leak, pump is quite, and pump MOVES water like crazy!
Here's my live feed screen shot for some piece of mind. Repositioned my camera until my leak detector shows up.

Couple updates:
- I modified my filter wall with mesh and can tell I'll like it more then the felt.
- I added a filter mesh sock to my skimmer outflow and it cut the bubbles down to non existing.
- The new Abyzz got even quieter as it's broken in if that was even possible.
- Going to cut down the overflow walls a little more as my current ones are at capacity but my intake pipes are only at 50%... This is a VarioS 8 at a level 3 and the Abyzz 200 at a 62%.
- The lock-line output mods are working exceptionally well.
- Put a rubber band on the Skimz skimmer water valve because it turns too easy and kept changing on its own.
- Added in my two clowns, orange back wrasse I won at the swap, court jester gobie, and vampire tang last week. The bacteria culture I dumped in worked really well to stabilize the tank.
- Only running 3 lights to keep the algae at bay for the moment. Going to turn them all on tomorrow and adjust with a light meter AsianReef gave me.

I might have missed it, but what bacteria did you add to stabilize?
I don't entirely remember... I used an instant ocean brand on my temporary tank this summer and a teal colored bottle I bought at new wave most recently. I was supposed to add 3x as much but I didn't and avoided using the skimmer for a bit.

So you are currently running one Reef Octopus pump and one Abyzz pump. Did it turn out that only one of the Reef Octopus pumps was defective? Or is the remaining Reef Octopus pump still too noisy and also needs to be replaced?

To quick elaborate... neither ended up defective as I went through the warranty process. It simply couldn't handle the pressure of my plumbing.

I have red and orange plumbing runs. Both pumps made most of the noise on the longer Red run. After hearing the Abyzz (or rather not) I'm going to have to save up for a second possibly.

With two they are able to do what I was trying on the VarioS pumps which is alternate the flow throughout the day. Ex: 70%/30% power in the morning, 30/70 in the afternoon, and 50/50 overnight.

Put all my corals in the tank today and the fish went nuts, the wrasse finally came out and wouldn't stop swimming. Thanks again Cypho for watching it all for me in the move... let me know if you see something or if you want to go in on a coral.

Orange back wrasse, won at the swap from petco... significantly better color in person then many of the online photos. The back is almost a shiny gold!

Corals as accurate as I can manage on color... pretty good actually. A number of these I've had for 6-10yrs and sent frags all over.
Nice pectina from Petco at the swap!

Believe it or not this monti was black with red polyps under Cypho's spare led lighting and growing really well.
