Surprise, Another SPS Tank (1 Viewer)

Welp took a whole 6 days for the chromis to do chromis things. 1 was mortally wounded and today is gone. The damage was so big it could have been a tang or hawkfish 🤷🏻‍♂️

Now the biggest one is attacking everyone else…

I have an auto feeder feeding 4x daily plus I feed a cube after dinner, guess I thought that would be enough to lower aggression. Guess not.

That sucks. I’ve also hoped frequent regular feedings would minimize aggression and having 6+ would help as well. Let’s hope the rest get along now.

Unfortunately, this is pretty typical. I have wondered if it is the lack of predator pressure that causes them to fight so much amongst themselves, and the fact that an aquarium just is not large enough for the fish to separate and avoid conflict as it is in the wild. the other issue could be that the grouping is not enough maybe you need 20 of the chromis ;)

So this is interesting, with the addition of the chromis I figured I was safe to stop dosing ammonia. My alk has been really stable the last few months with dosing dialed in perfectly but since shut off the ammonia dosing alk has risen almost 1.5dkh.

I was thinking 7 small new fish would be enough to offset it but I guess not.

Pardon my ignorance, but why would you dose ammonia in an established tank?

Corals take up ammonia more easily than nitrate so in a nutrient deficient setting ( until last week I had 4 fish and a tank full of Acropora) it’s a better choice according to Randy Holmes Farley.

This subject would be an interesting thread on how you did it, and your experiences ext!!!!

Ok wow the begging is where I shut off the ammonia dosing and the peak is when I turned it back on.

Fuzzy wuzzy was a…..acropora. :)

Yep been hearing snapping and thought it was a pistol nbd. Moved the rocks around to catch the bullied blenny and saw him today. Can’t believe he hasn’t killed any fish or snails so I have no idea what he’s been living off. Food scraps and mollusks that come in on the rocks I guess.

Also saw a cool porcelain crab I’ve not spotted before.

I haven’t seen a green one before. Do you have many fish in your frag tank? I’m assuming that’sWhere he is. Pretty cool to bad they get big and eat everything
