The 280 is finally going to get set up.. (1 Viewer)

I agree with them. my reason to QT fish is to make sure they are eating and healthy. My reason to QT and dip coral is to try and get the pests off of them before they enter the tank. I have been vacillating back and forth on treating all incoming fish with Prazipro. I will have some on hand and decide then I guess.

But as far as the plants go I think most pests need something to pester to survive, and I am not so sure they'll get their fix from pestering plants. Maybe I am wrong but the tanks will still have weeks before anything else goes in there. Most parasites (if there are any) should be dead by then.

I agree and practice your outlined QT approach, more of a receiving/acclimating to captivity/shipping recovering place than QT.

RE Prazipro, I'm struggling with that myself. I adopted a practice of treating all fish with Prazi and have had 2x fairly bad outcomes. These are far and away the exceptions, bad run of luck for me is best I can make out of it. If you have the patience and ability to provide the fish in QT with a stable environment I'm leaning towards a longer QT duration. Justification/thinking is make sure the fish is eating very well and regained body fat before using any medications. e.g. 2 weeks plus straight QT then week of prazi. I don't have the patience for this most of the time.

So today I started with this:

stopping tonight with this

The future QT room. Hope to have Sheetrock on tomorrow and build the bench for the tanks. If all goes well tanks up next weekend.

Well thank you. Some of this was planned but I was working on other things. I actually had that room drawn out a couple of weeks ago so I knew exactly how I was going to do it so it did not take long. Those studs for example are exactly 84" which means I did not have to cut a single one. That helped a lot.

So the outside of the room is done. I kind of tweaked my back a bit so it took longer than it should have. Hopefully QT tanks in by next weekend.

very impressive. Let us know when you're going to host a meet.

It is already on the calendar for August 3rd. Hopefully a good beer, brats, and yard games day. I will probably have to take the doors off the filtershed :) it's tight in there with just two people.

Tried to get the inside of the QT room done today but was distracted by the USPS so this is as far as I got tonight.

just the mounting for the shelves and two of the Shelves in. It is going to be tight in there. How tight? I cannot be in the room and close the door without going on a serious diet :).

The distraction? My plants came in from Liveplants.com a day earlier than I thought they would so I had to get them planted in the seahorse tank. Really impressed with the quantity these guys give. I just started sticking plant anywhere I could find a spot for them.

The water is kind of cloudy from stirring up the sand but here are a few shots. I do not have all of the lights in place for these I am waiting on the Kessil to show up. The fixture in the shot is the Rapid LED Onyx. I like the way it looks a lot. but not controllable. But I am fine with that, I have a plan :) So finally something living in at least one of the tanks.

Yeah kind of took me by surprise as I was opening the box. well packed and just almost too many. I thought the QTY was going to be smaller. I ordered too much.

I will update with pictures tomorrow but I almost have the QT for the coral tank done. I was sort of setback on the fish QT tank when the never opened Eheim canister filter I was going to use was missing parts. I was really bummed. These boxes have been in the corner since last Black Friday when I purchased them and I did not go through them to make sure they were complete. I just assumed they were. I called Marine Depot thinking they would tell me I was SOL and they would have had every right to do so. Instead the customer service rep, said he would take it back and send me a new one after it arrived. WOW!! That's customer service right there!

Anyhow thought I would share that, and like I said I will update with pictures tomorrow.

lol OK I lied, been busy and it's just an empty tank. But I figured I would post a pick anyhow for the grins.

This is the QT tank for coral

Future QT tank for fish. I still need to clean it up a bit and I am also still waiting on the missing filter parts.

The room is also going to be where the RKE is located and the Tunze ATO system. I am waiting on the ATO tank to be made and I'll set that up.
The Coral QT tank will double as a frag tank some day so I put a little more into it. The powerheads will be controlled by the RKE. I would have probably had the ATO controlled off of it too but I bought the Tunze quite awhile ago and may as well use it. I am going to use the RKE to control the ATO for the two QT tanks in there they each have their own sump of course. So that's pretty much it. The main tank is still cycling (so is the QT tank) so there is not much to do on it right now.

The macro I added to the seahorse tank for the most part is doing well. Some of the plants hated it in there and died (or got pulled out before they could wilt and pollute). Others are growing like weeds I will post an update on that at sometime.

Also I should try to get a shot of the Cheato I threw up in one of the upper refugiums. It is growing really well with no additional light other than the light that is coming down the light tunnel. so is the Ulva I added. I have not even put the powerheads in there yet because I still need to add the nylon netting I plan to use on the drain pipes so I don't plug them up with macro algae. So I am pretty happy about that.

yeah there's a vent fan pulling humidity out over the big tank. I am not too worried about the little tanks so much. especially since the control room (that's the new name of the QT room now lol since I started mounting all of the controls on the wall) is connected to the the area that holds the big tank and will have its humidity sucked out with whatever is pulled out from over the tank.

here's is a pic of the newly dubbed control room. Looks like I will be busy while I wait for the tank to finish its cycle. I just ordered the lunar mod from Bulk Reef since they're having a 10% off sale. I had to order the 5 switch module from Premium though since Bulk does not have it on their website.

yeah the Onyx is over the seahorse tank. I like it so much I have pre ordered four of the controllable ones that they are releasing in about 6 weeks for the 280. same fixture but has three channels you can control with a 0-10v signal
