What are your reef tank plans for 2010 ? (1 Viewer)

Subject to change but right now, I'm thinking:

1) Add more rock and reaquascape one last time including only the corals I really want. Problem is, there aren't very many I'm willing to give up. I'm sad even thinking about eliminating the xenia.
2) DIY metal halide and canopy.
3) Keep my hands out after that as much as possible and watch it grow.
4) Very diligent weeding (especially if I keep the xenia LOL) and maintenance.

Less likely but still up for consideration:
5) Plumb a frag tank into the setup somewhere...next to display (is this possible w/out taking the display all the way down?) or downstairs near the sump
6) Get rid of large she-clown and damsel and open up my fish options. :goldfish:

Keep it simple. Make it easy. Get it done.

I have been out this hobby for a while and now I'm back. Everything looks really good so far. New bulbs, live rock is established. Phosphates and Nitrates very low(not measurable). Bare bottom makes it easy to keep clean.

For 2010 my goals are

1 Lower my tank temp from 78-80 to 76-78. Should be really easy.

2 Make it easy to do water changes.

3 Change 10% weekly or 20% every 2 weeks.

4 I just got 6 frags from SWE and I have 3 small colonies; Keep everything alive and hopefully if all goes well over the next year it will start to fill up my aquarium.

5 Attend atleast 1 TCMAS meeting and see how it goes...I'm new to this group.

6 Instal my new JBJ ATO with aqua lifter pump. Make it easy.

7 Keep up with the maintanence even when I'm busy. Don't do things that will make it harder to maintain the aquariums current very good balance.

1. Set up my new 65 display with 40 sump (build thread here)

2. Rearrange the fish room
a. Build new 2x4 shelves, move refrigerator
b. Add the 3 new tanks to the breeding system
c. Add a bigger sump (like a 75)
d. Re-plumb with flexible tubing instead of pvc

3. Sell some baby ocellaris to LFS
4. Feed my broodstock at least twice a day
5. Get UV sterilizers for both systems

For the rest of the year...
6. Automate water changes
7. Culture callanoid copepods suitable for pelagic spawners
8. Part out my 29 gallon peninsula setup

For me, my goal is to get daily water change system in place. I'm planning to do a 3 gallon ( roughly 1% of total volumne ) water change per day. It's not quite as effeicient as a 1 time 30% water change would be. It works out to be the 26%, which is only 4% less effeicient than a single water change. The added consistancy and convienience should make up for the 4%.

Have lots of ideas and going to try a non-dosing pump method first. Should cost under $100. If it doesn't go as well as I hope then I'll fall back on using dosing pumps which is the most common way people achieve it.

Start a build thread so that I can learn from it. I want to do the same thing.

My plan is to get the 20 Gal tank that has been "temporarily" set-up in the laundry room for over a year out and on display somewhere in the house. I first need a stand and light canopy made. That or buy a biocube with stand.

1. Meet a bunch of salties and reefers at the Jan 9th meeting.
2. Get my 90 gallon and HQI fixture paid off.
3. Move my livestock from my 55 (in the old apartment) into my 90 (in the new apartment).
4. Drive to Foster and Smith's Coral Prop. Facility in Rhinelander, WI for the June 19th tour, and purchase a bunch of goodies for my new 90.
5. Buy another 50 LBS of rock.
6. Continue spending so much money on my reef, that I barely have enough to eat. :biggthumpup:

My goals were met! I kinda wish I had gone all t-5, but I am not going to change this tank for 5 years I may change up ballasts to one of the switchable watt SLS Galaxies... but I am going to run with this one for two more bulbs. Also with the recent but expected death of my copperband I am going to get a few wrasses. I have always wanted a mystery wrasse to call my own. Anyhow, goal met.
