To all the folks who don't like the way I put it...meh. it's the truth, whether you want to believe it or not. We all have lots of things to do in life, yet somehow the majority of people find a way to make it to meetings, to host meetings, to volunteers for committees, to be on the BOD, to work at events, or some other way to be involved. The BOD even have even given you the lazy way out by letting you buy your way in. If you can't do any of those things, if your life is so harried and you are so poor you can offer up $30...then I apologize.

Tim why not take a vacation from MODing for a while? A MOD is supposed to keep a community civil not flame and troll it. You are only making things worse.

I agree.

I would also add "How do you have time and money to keep and maintain a saltwater tank?"

I didn't had the time to tell you but Tim asked me yesterday to remove him from the MOD postion.
I will make an announcement shortly

Why don't you clear out your inbox so you can get a PM? Or do you prefer to have it full that when YOU flame others can't send you messages?

Afford? Well the classifieds, fif, nice members willing to help, not everything comes with high dollars. Most of us start out with mediocre tanks and grow with time. For me I got my tanks through trade with a member. Now without this avenue many new members unfortunately won't have this option. Think of how hard it is right now to convince present members to pay $30 or attend a meeting. Now try and convince a new person that's just getting into the hobby, who has never seen the benefits of the classifieds to pay or attend a meeting. That's like me trying to convince you into buying a magic carpet but won't let you take it for a spin..I really hope this changes. I can't even fif stuff...how lame is that?

If you can't afford to get into the hobby without handouts, your chances of success are almost nil. That is just the way it is. As it is, from my experience working at stores I'd say less than 30% are still in the hobby after a year, even when paying for the equipment and getting good advice. As a community, we are supposed to have the utmost concern for our livestock, but how many corals, inverts, and fish are killed due to inexperience when a newbie who can't afford decent lights gets a FIF, or someone with a 10 gallon tank gets a FIF tang?

No one has to pay $30 to read the forums and learn. No one has to pay $30 to attend a meeting and meet other reefers.

I'm sorry if some of you don't like my opinion, and I don't really care if you think I come off as crass. The rules are the rules, they have been voted on and implemented, and are a done deal. Complaining about it does no one any good, and I, for one, think it is time to shut up about it. :mad_3:

BTW, the few of you who think I'm a jerk don't start to compare to the hundreds of people I've helped, given free stuff to, and otherwise interacted with in this hobby.

Well if what your saying is only rich people should be in the hobby then I believe at least 50% of us should quit including myself....no ones asking for handouts just a start or better yet an opportunity. You must be one rich dude...

Who said anything about rich? You must have a serious case of success envy if you jumped to that conclusion.

Yet you have time to meet and buy and sell frags. Seems like perhaps the problem isn't your life being too busy, but your priorities not aligning with the club.

Yes that is correct, I am busy, as most I have sold frags to in the last couple of years I have met on my way to or from work. I am glad their is an option. My priorities are none ya bidness:tongue:. Sorry for stirring up the dramatics. Happy Reefing to all:beerchug:

Actually, you decided to make it the club's business when you came here and complained about something just because you don't want to take 2 hours out of your life a year to attend a meeting. :agree:

You perceived that as complaining? I worded it and meant it as questioning, a way to become informed. I love your crown molding.

Don't got to be rich to cough up $30 or to attend a meeting(which is free btw).

If you have only a part-time job and can't afford $30 then you have plenty of time to attend a meeting.

If you got a tiring but well off job then you can spare $30 if you so desperately want classifieds.

This hobby doesn't care what you do for a living. If you have to survive on deals and hand-outs you may or may not be successful. This is an expensive hobby, why would you expect anything else? All you need to do is wait on buying that next super-cool coral, buy membership, and then get some good deals on corals in classifieds.

Anyone that says they can't afford it, can't afford a fish or a coral off the classifieds anyhow so what's the point?

I don't know what's better action, this thread or the game.

Bods: can we sell commercial spots on this thread? ;)

Only if I get 30% of the take...:beerchug:

+1 just re-read it, completely an innocent question

Please stop this :brick1: :brainoverload: :angryfire: :brick: :kackle: :swear: :bawling: :errr: :2gunsfiring: :firecracker: that's going on
