wal-mart charges like 68 or 86 cents a gallon well it cost me like 3.86 for 2 5 gallon jugs so... what ever taht is per gallon.

that would be 38-39 cents a gallon if you got 2 5 gallon containers for $3.86.

I do have a skimmer and its a octpus 200 and i also have a nitrait reactor

I would change every 4 weeks. The same amount you are doing now. That would cut your costs in half. Then start saving for a RO/DI.

How much is a ro di unit? and could it be instaled with out having to do pluming? because we are renting this house so i cant make any big changes in the pluming

They are generally 150-225 from what i have seen. you should be able to just run it off the faucet somehow if needed.

check with bulk reef suppy they sell them. if you can get some jugs together so you have like 20 -25 gal .so its worth your time and gas money. i live in rockford witch is 25 miles from you . you can have for free till you can buy a ro di system.

Could I really do a water change every 4 weeks? i have a 125gallon with 2 4-5" fish and 2 clowns and a madrin with a acan,monti,mushrooms and zoa's and a recodia

Don't ask for free things... Free things get offered, not asked for in this club.

this is not true at all, just don't abuse it. when i first joined i asked for free corals to help me start out and Bill Capman helped me out bigtime! i never forgot that and have helped alot of people in return.

Chef

you are welcome to come to my house if you need to get RO/DI when your in a bind as long as your not here everyother week ;)

i'm in cottage grove which is a drive for you.

oh yeah, if your doing 25% its no prob, if you clean out that tap water youll be adding clean water, you'll see that algae start to go away. Plus your pretty lightly stocked for a 125 gal

Like others have said, there are very few places in the US where the water is clean enough to use tap. Unfortunately, nitrates and iron are very high in MN.

If your attempting to use tap, you will constantly be chasing your tail.

Hooking up and ro/di unit is really simple if you have a washer/dryer hookup. No plubming needed. Just Y off of your cold water with threaded adapter and waste output goes down your washer drain.

Stop all reef related spending and save up for a unit. This is your #1 priority. Even higher than upgrading your skimmer.

.

true, but if you DO ask for something for free, prepare to get chewed out by other members. I saw it happen to someone who jokingly asked for free corals the day after I joined this club. The circumstances were a bit different though , it was someone who had money for corals

Isn't is liek 50 cents a gallon for RO/DI at SWE and DA and some others? that would mean you are talking about $10 for a water change of 20 gallons. If that is too much then you are in the wrong hobby. ;)

40 cents.

If you are way out I would save up for an RO unit. Its more important than a skimmer IMO.
