Redwingers 75 gallon in wall build (1 Viewer)

Finished up the painting and ordered the cabinet door. Lead time on them is about 5-7 days. So if they get here before xmas I might be able to get the rest of the trim done and the staining done. Then I can start with the fun stuff

is there a way for you to get to the overflow to work in there if you have to?

Yep, i got long arms;) But I was able to reach into the bottom of the overflow. Was a reach but not overly concerned about that.

I'd cut that emergency drain short so its a couple inches above the water level. Then you can see and hear when it has water in it to alert you that something might have gotten in the drain, etc and needs attention.

Hence the reason I haven't glued that piece in yet.

Going to get rest of the trim work done tomorrow and have it stained so it is ready for the doors when they arrive. In the meantime I am looking at this for equipment.

Controller: Apex lite
Lights: still debating this one but leaning towards two Radion's
Skimmer: Octopus extreme xs-200
Flow: Two tunze 6105's and two nano streams in the back facing the down to help clean the bottom. Should provide a nice 100x+ turnover :)
Return: Mag 9 and going to add another down the road for redundancy
Topoff: Litermeter 3

That's what I will be starting with and adding dosers for two part later as the tank matures.

Trimmed and stained. Just waiting on the cabinet doors and the I have to stain them. Put a coat a poly on it and am done with this.

The center brace on the bottom is floating and removeable so I can pull the sump all the way out still if need be.

I like it, my wife doesn't. She says she'd rather have the fire place.

Cabinet doors should be here by the weekend. Changed up to equipment list a little. Found some 6100 tunzes at a great deal so that is what I am going to be using for flow. Also going to try T-5 lighting. After doing much research I went back and forth between halides, LED and T-5's. Having run halides in the past I wanted to try something with less heat and it was either T-5 or LED and I prefer the coloring of SPS that can be achieved with T-5 vs LED. Most tanks with LED look to washed out IMO.

Rocks in and the cycle has begun! Installed the skimmer and heater today from Fritz. Thanks again. The Tunzes should be here this weekend and then next week I hope to get the apex on order. Lights will be ordered last and installed last as I will be cycling in the dark.

Looks good, John. You still at the same place?

Yep same place. How ya been?

Sweet dude! Nice finish I like it.

Thanks

Looks great!! :beerchug:

Thank you, the wife likes it so that makes it even better:biggrin:

Going to have to pick up some more test kits next week as the ones I still had are over six years old for ammonia and nitrite. From the smell I am guessing the ammonia is building but reading 0 on the old test kit. Hopefully have the controller by the new year and then I can get the cords cleaned up and in place.

Got a nice bacteria bloom going now. I am assuming it is from the prodibio I dosed a couple days ago. I also used a cap full of vodka as a carbon source. I am hoping this will establish the bacteria population quickly and it appears to have done so. Might be why I am getting a no reading on ammonia and nitrite at the moment.

Yah definetly if you can get the wife's approval that's a win :)

After all it was her idea ;) I just can't wait for her to see it in its glory a year or two from now. She has never been exposed to aquaria so her first tank will be a full blown sps tank. She has only seen pictures of my old 75 and 120.
