well it was time for an upgrade!! (1 Viewer)

Just did a complete scrub down on the tank. All parts and pieces came out cleaned and put back to work. Took all corals and rock out, scrubbed the whole inside and out. And put all back. Everything is shinning now. Man I love having a nano. Did all this in just under an hour. Also picked up 10+ snails and hermits, and a cleaner goby. The bright blue looks great. Tried to pick up the snowflake eel fritz had but with no cover, small size tank, oh and I watched it jump across all the tanks on the back wall, decided against it. lol.

Here are a few updated pics.

I was having issues with slime build up on top of the water and then it started to spread to the wall and start growing on the coral. I added another pump for more surface flow and all has cleared up and looking great, Going to have some FIF soon. I have a few that have broke off mother colonies with me have fat fingers and a very narrow tank. I really want to do a 15 gallon star-fire tank, but I just love this thing to much.

i also replace the 2 bulbs. 1 in april, then 1 in may. No more algae build up on the glass. Only have to clean glass monthly. Coral seem to have adjusted well and are looking very happy. Plans now are for more fish and I want to try to add a ato and a refugium. But more equipment usually= more problems. So I'll prob just enjoy and keep up with the husbandry.

Ok so I picked up what i believe to be a fiddle crab. And now with some research found out what it needs to survive. I'm confused though. At forest lake pets where I picked this thing up at there was no way for it to get air. So how long is this able to breath completely under water. I gonna return it if possible. I have set a rock above water for it to climb up. I hate buying crap from stores I don't trust......:angryfire:

see what I mean about the acrylic not being as nice to look through as a glass tank. Might be a selling point :beerchug:

went looking at tanks today. Got wind of a $1 per gallon sale coming end of july early august. So now i'm working on the upgrade. 15 gallon black rim, hopefully drilled with a 10 gallon sump, that all i can fit under my stand. If it will fit(way overkill) or 2500. then I have a reactor i can run for carbon/gfo. Also use a aquaclear 70 for a refug diy style. Ato. and who knows what else. Corals will all get transferred, along with cuc. Now fish. I want a flame. Not convinced it will do ok, The clown I have now will move, and I want a mystery. Also not sure how it will do. all info online says 30 gallons or more for both, but it also says you cant have a reef in 6 gallons of water. LOL. So now to hurry up and wait...Lifes story!!

Carefull for the flame....If you have a sump you might be okay but they are much more active then any fish you have experience with they are grazers as in they swim much more all day (which is why they need atleast 30g) and they graze pods algae anything to be honest.. Seeing how clam packed you keep ur tanks full of coral Idk if a 15 will be enough room for a flame angel to swim around in.

I had a flame in my 90. thats why I want another so bad. As for cram packed. I dont plan to add any more corals or rock to the 15 then what I have already in my 6. So i think that might help. still working out the details. thanks for the input.

+1 to that I have had one for a while now and it works great just be sure to add the white felt stuff they sell to put in Canister Filters in there, 1 of those makes 4 little sheets that fit In my Aqua Clear and they're easily cleaned. Not sure of dimensions on the 70 but my 50 is: (this is for the little filter pads)
W: 2.5 in
H: 5.5 in

Good Luck with the tank! I've always envied this build :brick:

It captures the detritus, I made the mistake of just having the HOB refugium and nothing else and the chaeto collected so much crap that if you touched it it would burst with algae, it was disgusting. Now I have the felt and the 5-15 HOB filter and my water is crystal clear. It really helped to take care of all the Brown Algae that was infesting my tank(which was because of the nitrite factory in my refugium).

Also in just one day the felt was nearly black with so much decayed matter, at that point you just take the felt out, then scrub and rinse, and then it comes out like new. 1 of those felt pads will last you probably over a year if you keep them clean.

Thats a good idea. I know I have the hob now with the filters that I have to change every 3 weeks due to poo build up. its gross. It has carbon in it so that helps keep tank clear.

I was thinking about the upgrade this morning. And was thinking this tank is 4'' taller then my existing tank, and 4'' wider. Will I have any issues with the coral that are sitting on the bottom of my tank with the light I run no. Was thinking of buying another. I run a glo light with 1 blue. 1 white. I would run the same light next to this on, maybe add another blue and then a coral+ bulb. Not sure if this would be over kill. 4-24'' t5's on a 15 gallon. :biglaugh2:

Also thinking of way to do ato. I ran a mini jet in a 20l pluged into my controller when I dosed kalk on my 90 awhile back. It would turn on twice every night for 1 min each time. I think this might be two much water. Maybe an aqualifter running the same way, just have to figute out how much water I evaporate and adjust the time on the controler to allow the pump to run for that much longer. If I can get this figured out I prob would not even use a sump. I wanted it to allow for water changes with out stressing the tank. And if i ad a heavy bioload I would use my gfo/carbon reactor that I have laying around. Dang it. To many options.
