Sandsifter stars and gobies eat micro fauna which reside in the sndbed... they sift the sand looking for this fauna and in result the organic compounds are brought into the sand bed...

I'm guess I'm confused as to why you would think that the star would thrive in this environment. It sounds like that since they are sifting through the sand they are creating the opportunity for more "compounds" to grow or accumilate to then feed off of? Could you elaborate?
