120g Acrylic Acropora Addiction (1 Viewer)

Having the back of the tank clear makes it look like there is so much more room. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be too difficult to keep clean. Looks really nice!

Thanks!

I’m already finding out I will really have to stay on top of it. Coralline is starting everywhere! and the back is tough to clean. I have a brush cleaner that’s ok and a continuum scraper but it’s tough to get the angle and leverage for a good scrape. Using a Mag Float with a Magsleeve that works great for the front panels but I’ll have to try another brand of scraper. Man nothing like I’m accustomed to with a stainless blade that will just blast through anything.

I use a mag float every other day or so. When I do a water change once every week or 2, I get the bigger scraper and harder brush and go over the back wall. That keeps it all in check for me, so not a horrible amount of work. I too like the depth you get with not letting the back wall grow out.

When I had my biocube years ago, I started using melamine sponges (magic erasers). You don't need to worry about it scratching the acrylic. I still use them on my glass tanks now. You can pick up a 50 pack of them on Amazon for $10-15. Just need to make sure they do not have cleaning agents in them and they are good to go. That was the best thing I found when the mag float didn't work.

This guy has been crabby for line 9 months since he ripped out his buddy’s foot. No growth since and slamming shut all the time but looks like maybe he’s feeling more comfortable 👀

My understanding is Derasa and Gigas drop their byssus once theyre big enough to hold themselves in place by weight so who knows?

OK question.. I have really pondered the idea of getting one...
Are they hard to keep.?
Is Light the basic( hugest) necessity.
What to look for and what to avoid..
Please do tell...

Clams? I’m no expert. All I know is if acros are happy they will probably be happy. You have to get one that doesn’t have pyramid snails, which is tough because it’s not like you can flip them over and inspect at the LFS.

One of the final touches: cooling fans. Temp swing has been a little bigger than I like at 2°F per day. Had a clip fan on the other tank but wanted something that looked a little more polished. Couple 120v muffin fans on the top trim should help. Not so much with evaporative cooling but blowing heat from the light away from the tank. If these aren’t enough I can go with a higher rpm fan.

Nice clean look

Clams can be tough. I bought my Maxima from ReefCo about six months ago. I was not so sure it will do well in a newer tank but so far so good.. even at ~180 PAR. Just make sure you keep seeing that nice white new shell growth and you are good.

Maximas need a lot more light than most clams FYI.
