3 Foot Nano Tank (1 Viewer)

So today I went to work (on my day off) to put the finishing touches on my new screen top, as well as feed my fish and just keep it clean during my long holiday break.

And I saw something I had never seen before. Mini Brittle Stars started crawling out of the rocks and started to stick their bodies into the air. Then for about 3-4 seconds they released a slime into the water. I figure they were spawning. It was kinda cool to see. I had my camera with me but it was done before I even knew what was happening. Here is was it looked like though thanks to a google search

I have had a red starfish in my tank since Halloween and today he went missing. I didn't see my tank Monday and Tues due to the holidays (I went in on the weekend though so the fish didnt suffer over the long break) and today he went missing. I've seen him crawl into fairly small holes in my rock but I can usually see a part of the red legs. Today nothing... ????

OK the starfish was a false alarm. It was really far inside my live rock and I can start to see it crawling its way back out. It was just worrying when my tank is so small and there are only so many places for things to hide.

Eric, I really like your tank! Also, I am VERY happy to see you finally built a screen top for it.

Thanks. Its finally starting to bring me happiness rather than stress.

Ya my Midas jumped out one day while I was sitting at my desk and luckily I heard it so I found him and threw him back inside. He is my coolest fish so it was a wake-up call to get my butt going on the screen.

After the holiday break I'll post some coral and FTS pictures.

And since I saw my starfish back out and about today I thought I would share some of his/her crazy antics.

And I am happy to say I FINALLY figured out how to photograph my tank as close to the way it actually looks. For the longest time I've been using my T2i in either auto or manual white balance mode. But the pictures always looked wrong on my computer.

I always shot RAW so I could import them into lightroom or photoshop and adjust the temperature and tint to be as close to what my eyes were seeing. However even with full RAW control the white balance always maxed out at 50,000 and still looked wrong. Well the last few days I've been messing around with the manual white balance even more and still got strange pictures. Ones that completely removed the blue and made for some psychedelic images, others that looked super pink etc. Well for some reason the RAW format just sucked when I imported so I switched my camera to take both RAW + Large Jpegs and low and behold the Jpegs capture it exactly like I took it (If I white balance correctly)! Look at what the difference in the imported photos.

I know you probably don't like the look as much, but would you post a shot with the screen-top on?

That's a Red Bali Star I assume? I have one and love it, they are fun to watch and really move quickly compared to most starfish, active little guys! AWESOME TANK!
(and your build thread is a good read! Thanks!)
