55g turn-around (1 Viewer)

You said the tank got here due to neglect, not poor decisions. Which is better than the latter. And yeah, that makes sense when asking on relevant topics, and is a good idea. But when you're just asking what to do next, make like Nike and Just Do It!

I would personally bring your 20 gallon somewhere for store credit. Money from someone here or store credit either way goes to the tank.

I decided not to botch my 20g as it just will never sell for a 1/6th of what I invested into it. I'm turning it into a corallimorph-dominant tank so it isn't going to detract my attention away from the 55g at all.

Also there have been plenty of poor decisions put into this tank which mainly led to the neglect.

Guess I'll start off by replacing the substrate as that requires me to tank down the tank.

If the biggest problem was neglect, then time management is a big thing to think about. Running two tanks is going to take more time and more money than running one tank. If I were you, I would decide which tank I like better and shut down the other one. Less time and less money involved would be good for you at this point in your life. Lots of other things to be interested in than fish tanks. I really think the key to long term success is moderation. Too big, too complicated, or too many gets overwhelming and leads to frustration and poor results.

Update:

Tank staying clean and healthy so far!

Just got back from the TCMAS meeting and my parents only needed 30min to be convinced into better lighting when the budget allows. (which will be a while since my dog chewed up my retainer :mad_3:)

Although I did notice that for some reason my Orange Yuma looked weird earlier today. Anyone know if this is normal? I took this picture before I went to the meeting at 2:00pm and when I got back at 6:00pm it looked better.

Here are some pictures of the corals so far. Got 3 new frags from drahotad at the Meeting today. Really glad I was able to get my self another mushroom

First success so far with Zoathids (knock on wood)

Both frags of my Green Frilly Mushroom are fully healed and doing great

One of my new corals. My old xenia were awkwardly on a shell and eventually probably got buried in tank maintenance.

GSP colony still doing great. The front left section has exploded with grow (like a 1" mat overnight)
55g010.jpg

My Original shrooms doing good. The baby finally has full coloration.
55g011.jpg

Kenyan Tree frag looking really nice right now. The finger leather has always been "meh" since I got it. Just never seems to grow and spread out.

This guy finally looks like he's on stable footing now. He's been through a lot of ups and downs but looks like he has recovered and is ready to start growing.

My NEW shrooms

and finally, the big Kenyan Tree looking happier than ever!

Things seem to finally be looking up and I'm starting to get excited about this tank again. Have someone pending my corals in my 20g and by that time I can finally start to tear it down.

Also I used the old T5 we had for our 37g and added it to this tank.

Makes it so much brighter! Will definitely supplement my lighting for now until we get a better fixture.

Definitely agree with this, very well put and excellent advice!

"Although I did notice that for some reason my Orange Yuma looked weird earlier today. Anyone know if this is normal? Mine has done that before, usually soon after it splits, no guarantees on that though but they kind of slime and look weird right before they multiply.

Quick Update:

All corals are doing great and will b doing WC tomorrow, would of been Tuesday but have had to stay at SES after school to finish Pond Profile for the past 3 days and get be ready to present to city of Eagan.
Now that that is all finished and done with I can get back on my normals schedule.

Got better lighting!

Now you can see all that algae on the glass better

It's a Tek 4 bulb 48" with bulbs in this order:
(Back)
Blue+
Coral+
Coral+
Blue+
(Front)

WC time tomorrow.

Everything is pissed right now so nothing has opened up.

Pissed or not it looks so much better with the brighter, bluer lighting that I can hardly even tell it's the same tank! Now you can go for some higher light corals before the swap!

So much better. I would think about a Purple+ in the place of the Coral+ but i'm not sure there is enough blue to offset the red/pink/purple the purple+ gives off.

Nice upgrade

Are you adjusting your lighting schedule to help acclimate everything?
Yes I am lowering the photo-period to help them acclimate.

Everything seems to already be adjusted now except for my GSP which is still only half open. I gotta say that the biggest improvement I've seen now is how much more vivid the Zoanthids are!

The tank looks really weird for me right now as I am use to the tank looking white, not with a blue-ish tint so it'll take some getting use to :)

These 3 corals really look nice under the new lighting.
